Time to get a new system need some help

I have to say...if OP want to get the best out of his new rig, he really should stretch the budget, so that the build would have at least:
2500K (those games listed would love the SB CPU, especially the ones don't use more than two cores)
P67 board
6850/GTX460 1GB
4GB of RAM
Windows 7 64-bit

Basically the same as my suggestion except I went for the 5850 as it's a bit faster and cheaper than the cards you picked.

I Know it's a bit out of left field here but it may be worth looking at the i3 pre overclocked bundles......? Check this spec out?

Not the new Sandy Bridge nor a i5 but still a whooping 4.2Ghz of power AWSOME for your current games that will only ever use 1 or 2 cores anyway
Plus the simple thought of if your not up for a DIY system this bundle is pre configued so no messing just Build it & then it's plug and play.....
Plus a top end ATI GPU???

I wouldn't get dual core anymore irrespective of the clock speed.

I just think that more and more games are using the 4 cores so I couldn't do dual core anymore...maybe just me.

What PSU/Case/Drive etc are in the current system. If they can be reused maybe could stretch to a K series build

SNIP

Hate to shoot you down - it is a good idea after all and you are right 2 cores at 4.2GHz is more than enough for most games - but games are beginning to need 3-4 cores, with several current titles optimised for 4 cores and more games tending that way.

Also, a HD6850 is slower than a HD5850, co-incidentally a HD5850 also beats a HD6870.

thanks for all the pointers. I was thinking of the 955 ' black' but a lot you seem to be recomending going with sandybridge. Also graphics wise I was going to try and stick with Nvidia as I have had some really bad experiences with ATi in the past.

Main reason for going to win7 over XP is that I want to go 64bit so I can us emore than 2gb ram properly and the only verison of XP i have is the 32 bit one. Looking at some suggestions I think i will probably up the budget by another 100 to 150 quid just means I need to wait another 2 months for bonus time so I can get it all in one go
