What do you recon? Should i lap it?

(Small FFT Test)

I should have seen you were using a block.. if you are using a back plate then by placing a washer between the back plate and the motherboard you will increase the pressure on that side of the mount compaired to the rest of the mount (assuming you turn all screws evenly)..

You need to go check the core layout for the Q6600 I had a guide somewhere but cant find it.. anyways core 0 and 1 are next to each other and therefore you will need to have a little more pressure on that side...

Having said that with a water block I found this more time counsuming that I did with the TRUE and you may just be better lapping it first and seeing what happens! but if you dont want to void warenty by lapping then messing with the pressures can help even temps out... depends how much 4c difference bothers you :)

To be fair a 4 Degree differance at 100% isn't exactly horrific but I like to make every effort. I think i will have a play with tightening the side.

Also i have been looking at getting a back plate because i just feel uncomfortable knowing that all the block pressure is on 4 little points.

Am I Right in saying the triangle in the corner faces pci slots? (On the cpu)

I don't want to take the block off and undo the clip to check

I am undecided on wether I can be bothered to do it atm, It's not the warranty that worries me. I'm just going to wait until i have added some extra rads into my loop on monday/tuesday and see if i can do 3.4 in the 50's on a small FFT. If not then i'll lap it and go for it again.

AH you beauty :) I'm gonna tighten to top two screws slightly and it should balance out.

It's probably just that silly old mavity thing :P

Ok thanks guys, One more question.

Windows doesn't want to boto if i go up to 3.3

I have tried settign as high as:

V Core: 1.5
NB: 1.45
VTT: 1.5

Do you recon it could be the RAM? Surely those V's are much higher than i should need to boot in 3.3.....

My ram is http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-097-OC&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=813&name=OCZ%204GB%20(2x2GB)%20PC2-6400C5%20800MHz%20SLI-Ready%20Edition%20Low%20Latency%20Dual%20Channel%20DDR2%20(OCZ2N800SR4GK)

I have 8 GB clocked at 900 MHz

I don't see why you wouldn't want to lap it, I mean you spend hours researching your kit, spend a small fortune on cooling and then turn a blind eye to a wonky IHS :D:confused:

Must be something to do with warranty or resale I reckon because otherwise I don't see a good reason not to lap!

Nah resale doesn't bother me cos i can sell it on MM to knowledgable clockers.
Warrantly doesn't bother me because it'd gimme an excuse to build an i7 Rig.

It's just because I haven't doen it before, I'd need to get hold of some glass sheet and all the paper, though lappign actually drops temps aswell as evening them out so I think i will do it.
