Hi,
So following on from this thread...

I've had the 05 IS250 Auto in for a gearbox rebuild by an independent automatic gearbox specialist back in March. The initial fault was the shift solenoid C as indicated by the OBDII reader. The solenoid was changed by Lexus but it made no difference.
The rebuild worked for a while since its completion mid April. His invoice states...
Carried out diagnostic checks to the trans unit. "no 5/6 gear present"
Remove the transmission unit from the vehicle
Carry out full trans rebuild with torque converter
Flush oil cooler system on vehicle (I think it says cooler)
Refit all parts to the vehicle with new trans oil
Road test vehicle
...but the same set of error codes (CHECK VSC, traction control light and engine light) came up intermittently and the car again was either stuck in 3rd or 4th gear so it went back to the independent a few days before I left for a 5 week holiday first week of August. Towards the end of that holiday I was informed there was an ABS fault preventing him from diagnosing further and it had to go back to Lexus as every time the car rolled foward the slightest it would bring up the ABS light.
I came back from holiday and took it to Lexus and the fault they were referring to was due to the independent's 3rd party equipment being plugged in and the car not recognising this so this was corrected. He also noted a set of 3 codes indicating Shift Solenoid "A" and "C" Performance or Stuck OFF and Pressure Control Solenoid "D" Performance or Stuck Off. I requested the Lexus technician call the independent to explain all this. So he did and the independent agreed to take it back.
I took the car back and I recall him saying the valves needed adjustment but it had been resolved. A week later the error codes have returned. Initially it was stuck in 3rd but I now have all gears up to 5th but no 6th.
Also since both repairs I have noticed an approx total of 5 occasions when it can shift to 6th gear but there be no power at all when I'm on the gas pedal...i.e The car is in 6th but the rpms drop to idle the moment the auto has shifted from 5th and I have to manually shift to 5th gear in manual mode to restore "bite" so to speak between engine and gearbox so the rpms rise and I get acceleration again. Was scary when it happened on the motorway as I was slowing down unintentionally. So I had to move the stick to manual and restrict it to 5th gear.
Also since this saga started I have noticed a slight lag in acceleration as explained in my previous thread. It's especially noticeable in 4th, 5th and 6th whereby when I accelerate the rpms have to rise a few hundred before I see the speed rise. This hasn't been resolved by the rebuild.
So it's due to go back to the independent. How do you recommend I play this?
Do I wait for him to repair it and sell it whilst it still has 5 months warranty with the independent knowing that his repair probably won't last long judging from the 2 previous experiences...
Or do I keep the car and keep taking it back till the warranty runs out and then look for a 2nd opinion?
Or take it for a 2nd opinion now but I'm not sure how the independent will see this as he may say 3rd party interference on his warranty....
Or do I start the process of small claims? I paid approx £2300 inc Vat for the rebuild.
I'm reluctant on the first option as besides this problem albeit it being a major one it has been faultless and is in very good condition bodywork wise. I also inherited the car when my father passed away so it has sentimental value. If I sell I probably be lucky to get £4K with it being 8 years old with 110000 and declare the rebuild.
Thanks
