Hi guys,

I'm still hanging on the brink of upgrading from my (faulty?!) 1GB 4870, but I don't know what to go for or even if the times right for splashing out? What's round the corner, anything special

I need your help guys... I've got £250 spare atm.

as above,.. and hopefully youl have some beer tokens left over, or wait to see what price the 6950 comes in at next month

I'm in a similar situation, have an upgrade budget of aprox £250 and planning to see what the 6000 series of cards offer but I guess that also means waiting until the end of November as that's when the 6950 is being released?

I advise to get a 6870 as soon as it is released.

Interested why you'd suggest this, surely it would be better waiting for the 6950, yes I know (at least at a launch) that it will likely cost more than £250 but I could be persuaded to increase my budget if it offers an excellent price-to-performance ratio...

It might be because when the 5870 and 5850's came out, they were £300 and £200 respectively.

They quickly shot up in price and are still hard to find at the original launch price.

you can get a 5870 for £250 if you look in the right place at the moment, not many left though - probably worth waiting for the 6's if you can.

6870 will be a shade slower than 5870.
It will "probably" overclock more than 5870 as its on a more mature 40nm process.
6870 will be neck and neck with GTX470 judging from recent benchmarks and price position.

This will be a great MEDIUM entry GFX card.

Right, so they came out on time then :D

I've got my eye on the Asus 6870 OC edition... is that the best option? I need it soon as really - I'm actually holding back from starting new vegas and metro 2033 because I want to enjoy them on my new card.

Incidentally, will my 500w enermax psu having enough power for the new card or should I think about upgrading that at the same time?

Cheers!
