Hi folks,

I am currently looking to spruce up my PC a bit to make it a bit more modern for some of the new games that are incoming like GTA 5 and i am currently playing anything from WOW, COD, BF4 or Bejewelled :P

Current Spec:

i5 2500k 3.3ghz @ 4.4ghz with Corsair Hydro H50-1 cooler
ASUS P8P67 Pro Mobo
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3
Samsung 256GB SSD 830
EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW 2048MB
LG W2363D 1080p 120hz tft
Oculus rift dk2 (development use as I am not using it for gaming)
Coirsair 800w PSU

The main question is that if I put a 970 and upgrade the monitor to 1440p do you folk think that would be worth while and will it be able to run at acceptable frame rates? Or would it be better to stay at 1080p or is it time to save up and go for another complete build that will last another 3 years like I have with this (upgraded to ssd and 670 2 years ago) and would I see much of a improvement if I went all new?

The other head scratcher is that if I am mirroring the main screen with the oculus it will have to be at 1080p for development and there will be no issue running say a swift at 1080p to pump up the res to game?

Cheers,
Paul

Cheers Stulid. I will look to get a 970 :)

I notice that with the benchmarks that 1440 nearly half's the fps with the games they tested, is this normally the case? Would it just be worth to stay at 1080p and run games at a much higher fps?

We have the exact same build ... Except I have a amd 6950. I was also thinking of getting a 970 and going1440p or going for a whole new build.. But I will wait for skylake to be released

Get the 970 and go 1440. You can always SLI down the road. I did that with my 680s and they still give me decent frames on my u2711.
