Hey everyone, long time reader first time poster! :D

I'm considering upgrading my 480 SLI's this wknd to a single card solution, I would appreciate any feedback ! I don't have the cash to go crazy but looking at £250 "ish" - Not sure if it's even worth it tbh - I game at 1080, don't play anything too hardcore! Mostly Rage / Borderlands 2 / occasional WOW (Hides face)
I've loved these two cards, yea they run hot and my PSU barley handles them any O/C at all on the cards and the system fails. :-(
But it's time to move on, I've always been a Nvidia fan boy - but the R9 280X does look like an excellent buy! (Especially as I live 5 mins from OCUK) :-)
Any and all suggestions would be welcome! - Many thanks!

I bought one of these the other day, and so far it's been great. A great card at a great price :

This, with an overclock will be in 7970 / 280x territory :

Tempting price for a 280x :

Also, there are some sensible prices now for some of the GTX770s :

I never even considered a 7950! - Can't believe i missed that!

Is the Ice Q worth the extra £24 quid over the standard HIS 7950? ( Thinking possible XFire) (Sorry for the questions my knowledge is limited on AMD cards!)

Welcome to forums by the way. :)

The IceQ card will be faster at stock due to its overclock, and be much quieter and cooler. I'd say its worth it. I guess if someone wasn't bothered by noise at all / wanted to save as much money as possible, then the reference model would be an option - though I should think one, let alone two, under load would make a right racket. :D

Thanks! :-)

I used to the noise of these 480's - i'm worried I might start to miss it! LOL

Will check some reviews out of the 7950's seems a good choice if they O/C that well! - I was tempted by the 770 but they are a good chunk more expensive!

How does your Asus 7970 hold up when overclocked? I could strecth to one just wondering ig the extra £50 is worth it?

Thanks again!

My Platinum would bench at 1300/1900+ on air, although it's down to the old silicon lottery as they say.

Thats a big bump - guess not a 24/7 clock though! - I think my options are between the 7950 Ice Q and the Asus 7970 and if the extra pennies are worth the difference.

Again thanks for your advice! :)

Most of the time I ran it at stock clocks which was plenty fast enough for what I needed it for. But if needed it would game all day along at 1250 on the core with no bump in voltage.
