Time to upgrade... advice?

Hi guys,

unfortunately circumstances prevented me upgrading at the time of this thread originally but im now back in the market and after some of your great advice! :)

just wondering how the advice will have changed over the last 6 months? i see intel 9xxx series are out now and the ryzen 1700 has come down in price close to the 2600?

still got the same internals as per the first post but want to upgrade CPU, RAM and MoBo.

whats budget again and just for gaming ?

Yeh it's the purchase of bf5 and its super choppiness during firefight that's prompted me (I get 120fps on med settings when all is calm). I only use the pc for gaming.

Budget is flexible but around 400 ish for the lot I'd say.

guessing overlay shows 100% for cores when in firefight with 64 people server ?

Yeh it maxes the f out as soon as more than maybe 10 ppl or a couple of explosions on screen :D runs at about 25 fps in these situations

Gpu utilisation never gone over 65%

both 8 cores ! intel 8700k 6c/12t performs slightly under i7 9700k 8c/8t due to clock speed and more cores will always beat more threads ( least for gaming). Hyperthreading normally add 20% performance on top , show why 8700k doesn't scale in performance to 8600k 6 core without HT turned on

hopefully help with Networking which hurts a lot in these games along with path finding , also hopefully means can pump up GPU settings to get the GPU working harder !

I shall :) and yes got a CM hyper 212 evo already

if its not the latest version , it may run warm and loud- just a heads up. use some good paste and see how you get on at Stock speeds first . Normally would pitch something like this

Well I bought it less than a year ago so hoping it is!

Thanks for the links. I plan to run it stock for a while anyway so I'll see how she does temp wise
