My trusty P4 1.6 @ 2.4 and ATI 8500 have served me well but it's time to play BF2 and look towards vista. So, I will need the following, Graphics, M/B, 2 GB RAM, new PSU and looking for an intel DUO CPU. I have 2 IDE hard drives and 2 IDE optical drives so will need 2 IDE channels.

I have very little idea about what all the current hardware so would appreciate some pointers. Budget of around £500-£600

Thanks

Think you'll find pretty much all newer boards are moving to 1 IDE slot.

Best solution i see what be get a board with 1 ide channel and buy a cheapo ide controller card, otherwise you're limiting your options here.

I'd noticed that :/ OK i will get a converter for the two optical drives or an extra IDE PCI card, so that leaves me with just needing the one port.

I'd go with something like this, bit over budget but in honesty it could do with a slight upping, the memory is good but you can get slightly faster (lower CAS) for another £20.

That board will OC that CPU to 2.6 at least, providing the current core 2 cpu's are clocking like the older ones.

You could proberly settle for 1gb of mem and save some that way, it would be better to sacrifice 1gb of memory then say dropping the vid card or the board to a lower one.

If you don't wanna Overclock though, by all means save some cash and grab the ASROCK board instead, or one of the other cheaper ones.

1GB would be find to start with actually, and up it to 2gb when vista comes out :)

And i will want to overclock it a bit ;)

Thanks

I am going to order the above tomorrow but the RAM but it's more expensive even though it's in this week only?
