Hi peeps,

Just a bit of advice please.

I still have my trusty 5970 (Black edition) that I bought in 2009.

I still play lots of games (not BF4 though mores the pity), however would I notice a large increase if I upgraded to an R9 290?

I just spent £500 on my rig in Nov upgrading the MB and CPU so now I'm wondering if it's time to do the biggie?

So, is it worth it?

Cheers.

Solo.

What did you upgrade your CPU/motherboard to?

What is the brand and wattage of your PSU?

How much are you willing spend on a new GPU?

Hi,

My CPU is an I7 4770K

My MB is a GiG z87xd3h.

My PSU well, hmmm, it's 4 year old and I think 850?

Does this help? I need my m8 around to give me the tech advice. I just play games :)

Willing to spend up to £400.

Sorry, noob sauce question number 300 -

What's the difference between a -

Asus AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB Graphics Card

and

Club 3D AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB GDDR5 Graphics Card

1 cost £315 and the other costs £419?

Thanks again peeps.

A few excellent deals available at the moment:

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI Geforce GTX 780 Gaming Edition OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £369.95
1 x Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X "BF4 Edition" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11227-00-50G) £365.99
1 x MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £359.99
Total : £1,095.92 (includes shipping : FREE).

The Tri-X would get my vote, although it's not clear when it will be back in stock and the price will presumably go back up tomorrow morning.

There's less real world difference than there has been before like.

In stuff like Firestrike benchmark, there's a decent difference like.

As already suggested I think the sapphire 290 is the way to go, yes its out of stock but as mentioned it will go up in price tomorrow so if you decide on it you should pre-order now.

If it is a non-reference card, then the cooler and PCB might be different. And then there's the brand, which would mean different terms and return location for rma.

But for the £315 290x, I would say it's either from a scam site, or they don't have the VAT included.
