Spec in sig.

Ran the SteamVR test and it's scoring 9.4 (very high) but was just reading about serious sam VR and I think my comp is gonna struggle.

Cash is tight after forking out £750 for the vive, but I can probably flog my GTX 980 and grab a 1070 or something in the January sales. Is it worth it?

My Vive doesn't arrive until tomorrow so I haven't actually tested but I'm a little apprehensive that my spec on paper is basically near the minimum rather than the recommended.

My 3770k OC'd at 4.4GHz I'm hoping is sufficient, how much performance will I gain going upto a 6700k?

I run at 8.9 and it is perfectly adequate for Vive VR. I am looking at upgrading after 6 months of VR to a 1070 because I want to push higher settings but it looks like you should get on just fine with your setup.

I would say, enjoy the first few months then upgrade later and bag a bargain.

Thanks for the advice. What is your cpu/gpu?

i5 3570k at 4.6ghz with a 970 here and vr works fine, changing to a 1070 next week though just to help it along a little but cant say ive had any problems with any games at all so far

I am running a 980 and have no problems at all running games. It would be a smoother experience on a higher card, and you could push sampling a little higher etc, but it's not needed at the mo'.

the difference between a 980 and 1070 is very little isn't it? certainly not worth paying for.
OC the 980 if you need. i've got a 980 HOF and won't be upgrading for a good while yet. handles VR fine.

You'll probably be fine wirh the 980 unless you want to push for super sampling on certain games - it does noticeably improve the image quality, although I'm not sure how people manage to use a SS higher than 1.5 without a Titan.

In terms of the CPU, most things barely cause a 6700K to sweat (I think Google Earth VR is one exception).
