Wondering whether or not now is the perfect time to upgrade my current system.

E6600
P31-DS3L Mobo
4GB DDR2 RAM
9800GTX+
250GB Samsung HDD
750GB Smsung HDD
1 x DVDROM
2 X DVDRW
650W Coolermaster PSU

I basically use my rig for Video encoding. Also tend to use it for the odd game here and there, COD, BF3 FM2012. Etc.

Was wondering if you guys thought i should upgrade, had this mqachine for around 2 years now.

I have an Antec 300 case.

All drives are SATA ecept for one i think, which is the top DVDROM drive.

Id say my budget was roughly £200/ £250 tops.

Not much of a budget, but not got much cash floating aroud this time of year really! Was hoping a few decent deals or bundles would appear!

Ps. Also got

1x PCI Xtremegamer SoundCard
1x PCI WLAN Card

Yeah it would i guess.

Id be basically happy with;

New Board
New Mobo
New RAM

For time being, the GFX card can stay, its nothing special but still does the job. Could maybe get one after Xmas cheap ;)

So that would mean flogging the E6600, P31-DS3L + 4GB DDR2 RAM.

Should getme £60-£75 if im lucky

really for your usage you want the i2600k/i2700k but the i2600k on its own will eat your budget.

could be an idea to get a cheap q6600/q9650 for the time being(will be a huge step forward from the e6600), then when you have saved up enough for a full overhaul(cpu,mb,ram, gpu) buy everything together then. new graphics cards + ivy bridge cpu will be out by then.

Ok... so potential upper budget including income from selling old kit of £320ish?

So, how about:
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM £155.99
MSI Z68A-GD55-G3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £124.99
G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL ) £38.39

Total : £319.37

That would be an excellent upgrade (presuming you do only need CPU, Mobo, RAM - i.e. have a cooler, etc.).

Well you can order a Artic freezer 13 for £18 to go with the cpu/board/ram.

Well you need to get it ordered tonight as the price of the CPU and ram goes back up in the morning.

no idea why I'm bothering posting seeing as my previous post was effectively ignored.

Managed to get it all for about £285 shopping around.

It is rather tempting to go on and buy!

What you think i can scoop back for my E6600, P31-DS3L With 4gb DDR2?

Guessing the new rig id build would last me for a good few years to come?

It will last a very long time, you can clock the 2500K to 4.5Ghz easily maybe more depending on the chip, then you can also upgrade the CPU to a ivybridge whenever they come out (or wait till they are dirt cheap and secondhand as the i5 2500K will last a while im sure)
