So I recently upgraded my 4 year old gaming rig with a simple SSD installation and upping the RAM from 4gb to 8gb and it's left me with an urge to boost it some more.

my current specs are:
Mainboard : Asus M4A87TD EVO Chipset : AMD RD770 Processor : AMD Athlon II X4 635 @ 2900MHz Physical Memory : 4096MBDDR3-SDRAM Video Card : ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series Hard Disk : Western Digital WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0 ATA Device (1000GB) CD-Rom Drive : DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device DVD-Rom Drive : ATAPI iHAS124 Y Monitor Type : Samsung SMB2430H - 24 inches Network Card : Realtek Semiconductor RTL8168/8111 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Network Card : Atheros Communications AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCIe) Operating System : Windows 7 Home Premium Home Edition Media Center 6.01.7601 Service Pack 1 (64-bit) DirectX : Version 11.00 Windows Performance Index : 5.9 on 7.9

(Please NoteI can't get to my pc right now so this is taken from before I upgraded the ram and slapped in the SSD)

Over the next few months I'm wanting to upgrade the CPU, the Motherboard and the GPU.

I was thinking of the following:

And then later down the line (birthday in a few months and it coincides with pay day) I'll slap a 7970 in, I've been told that the new generation of GPU is getting announced/released soonish so one would hope the price of the 7970 might drop a fraction.

How about that then? Will it work? Hit me with advise/abuse/criticism/opinions on my plan

I'm wanting to get on with it soon as both the Motherboard and the Cpu are on offer this week and being a Yorkshireman, I like a bargin;)

Looks good. I'd prob change to one of these however, you get UK RMA and the coolers would be spot on for overclocking if you are planning it:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £112.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £89.99
1 x Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £52.98
1 x Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £51.98
Total : £319.94 (includes shipping : £10.00).

Thanks for the quick response fella.

I wasn't planning any overclocking straight away so I'm not too sure if I'd be needing the fan. I have a Asetek Liquid CPU Cooling System in my current build would that be worth keeping on board?

Meant to say welcome the forums :D

With your cooling system does it have the mounts for socket 1155 / 1156?

I'll get back to you on that one, I don't have my pc to hand at the minute but I'm sure I'll be able to conjure something up on the old google.

Also, whilst I'm here lets talk power supplies. The one I've got in at the minute is a 600W cyberpower (who I originally ordered from) one. Will this do the trick or will I benefit from a new one?

Never heard of cyberpower. Doing a quick google doesnt really help either :D I would get a new one just to be on the safe side.

Seasonics are the best, or if you want a cheaper alternative get an xfx one as they are made by Seasonic.

cyberpower systems, its the company that I ordered my custombuilt one off of. I would link it but I'm guessing I can't link other retailers on these forums >.<

Its basically a no name one that they branded as they're own. Will a new powersupply be recommended for when I get the motherboard and processor or just when I get the more powerful graphics card?

thanks once again, really appreciate all the advice!
