Hi Everyone

So it seems like its time to upgrade my ancient pc been a long time since ive done a build so any help will be much appreciated, i mostly play Total war warhammer 2, and this is what i have at the moment.

Thermaltake armor case
ENERMAX INFINITI 720W EIN720AWT ATX2.2 MODULAR SLI COMPLIANT PSU
Intel I7 950
Asus Rampage 2 extreme
12 gb ddr3 1600
Gigabyte Gtx 1060 6gb
CT256MX100SD1
CT500NX500SSD1
WD1500AHFD x 2
Maxtor 6B200P0
Gelid Tranquillo Rev.2 Quiet CPU Cooler
Lg 55UM7400PLB TV

Can anything be saved from this such as the ssd and gpu or even the case or should i get everything new?

Think budget around £1000 - £1500

And something i could still upgrade in the future would be great.

Thanks Rob

B450 and 3700x would be a significant upgrade. 32gb of ram, such as patriot.Although you might benefit from a x570 board long term. Probably worth getting a new PSU also!

Something like this?

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £836.02 (includes shipping: £11.10)

RAM is poor value, you can get significantly more ram for not much more $.

PSU seem expensive, should aim for a little under £100.

Motherboard also seem very expensive, why did you choose this one?

Total: £779.05 (includes shipping: £11.10)

To be honest i didn't know what to pick, went with gigabyte becasue i had there stuff before.

To be honest i would prefer an asus mb as thats what ive always had.

Also what about intel stuff?
Selling yester-yesteryear's stuff at luxury prices...
And without upgrade path to anything, which would have more cores than next-gen mainstream.
Next-gen consoles will come with pretty much slightly underclocked for energy efficiency variant of 3700X as CPU.

Never trust brand or previous product reputation:
In B450 boards Asus boards are pretty much crap for money and MSI curb stomps others.
With good case cooling MSI B450 Tomahawk would do decently well with 12/16 cores.

Though X570 boards have more durable boards (except for MSI who took the consumer scamming role) for top CPUs and also lot better feature set for future.
I mean PCIe lanes of previous AM4 chipsets are of dozen years old PCIe v2, with X570's PCIe v4 having four times the bandwidth per lane.

X570 also has minus: Active chipset cooling with fan.
And Asus failed to use common sense in design and put that directly under graphics card's position resulting fan being bathed in its heat.
With high heat output graphics card that can cause very sweaty chipset temperatures making fan run like there's no tomorrow.
Besides noise risks that also definitely wears fan down faster than necessary.

Gigabyte had more sense in chipset cooling design. (Aorus Elite would be very well balanced board for the money)
Actually MSI did best in chipset cooling, but VRMs are just crap for the price copypastas from B450.
Like I said, never trust brand or previous product reputation...

Phanteks AMP would be good PSU.

What's the precise case model?
Thermaltack had lots of outdated 15 years ago models with PSU on top.

Yeah its a very old case and the psu is at the top.

Thermaltake-Armor-VA8003BWS-Black-Window

One of these.

What build would you suggest?

Thanks Rob

So after your advice and looking at other threads, think I've narrowed it down to this

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £795.01 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Think i definitely need a new case as well though.

Any suggestions for a case?

Thanks Rob

For 3700X already £21 Arctic Freezer 34 would be good.

Also unless planning on high core count CPU upgrade, MSI B450 Tomahawk would be enough.

What style case you would prefer?
Though I consider no 5.25" bays case as disposable design marketing fad, because those can't be expanded/upgraded.
Any case with 5.252 bays can take latest connectors:

Hi

I think i will stick with that mb so i can upgrade later down the line.

As for case, i still have an optical drive that i would still be able to use so something that can accommodate that would be great.
