Hi Guys,

It's been a while since I upgraded.

I want to upgrade my motherboard, cpu and increase the amount of RAM i have.

At present my spec is as follows:

Gigabyte GA-EX58-Extreme Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
Intel Core i7-920 Socket 1366 Processor 2.66GHz - Overclocked to 4.00Ghz
6gb of Ram

I am currently running 2 x 580 GTX in SLI - should I be looking at upgrading these as well?

I game across 5760 x 1080 and sometimes in 3D.

Any help or advice would be welcome.

Do you find that your system is struggling to perform?
You could get a z77 board with a 3570k, but i can't imagine you'd see much improvement for your money.

If your desperate to upgrade, i'd change the graphics instead, not as well as.

Thanks for the reply - I guess that was one of the questions I should have really asked - tech seems to move on so fast it's difficult to always keep up.

I don't suppose it struggles - but I am out of touch on if things have moved on hugely since I bought my original components.

If you are only gaming then you will not get much of a performance increase out of upgrading at this time.

If you don't have one an SSD would be a good upgrade.

Personally I don't see nothing wrong with your setup, a SSD and a extra 6 gb of ram woud be ok.

Ok thanks for the link - so an extra 6GB would give me a little boost as well then?

Well waiting is no problem - SSD have dropped in price massively from when I looked at them a couple of years ago.

Best to buy a SATA 3 drive. Although you won't get the full potential out of it now, when you do upgrade (I would wait to see what Haswell brings to the table) the SSD will then perform at its best, saving you having upgrade that as well.
