Who uses TimeMachine here? What do you backup to? How do you find it?

Can more than one user back up to the wireless TimeCapsule? How does that fare? Quick?

Can you partition the HDD and backup for restoration?

Thanks!

What do you backup to?
750Gb WD in a QuickPort over eSATA.
How do you find it?
Pretty spiffy.

Yup

Haven't got a Time Capsule to try it myself.

*shrugs*

np :D Not a whole lot of help, though :p

Timecapsule isn't too bad over wireless. ou don't notice it other than the first time so doesn't really matter. Restoring would take longer but no idea of figures.

I use time machine to an external harddrive. Never actually 'used' it though.

I use it, but it's a bit noddy.. very geared for idiot end users. It's a shame there's no "advanced" features like making manual selections, as it's a bit of a pain to setup if you only want to backup a small subset of the files on the machine.

It's great if you are just after a fire and forget backup system though.

Yes, if you don't want it to back something up you have to tell it to exclude folders.

I use it with an external WD HDD and it's been "fine" - haven't really had to use it but glad it's there :)

1.Who uses TimeMachine here?
Yup started using when 10.5.3 became available.

2.What do you backup to?

WD MyBook Studio 1TB - the MyBook is partitioned 400GB to TM.

3.How do you find it?

Quick and efficient. I did an Xbench test with eSATA, FW800, FW400 and USB2.0.
Firewire 800 thrashes everything else so I use that interface.

4.Can more than one user back up to the wireless TimeCapsule?

You could partition your destination drive and have each user back up onto a seperate drive partition.

5.How does that fare?

Would be ok, although if two TM backups started the poor drive would get thrashed.

6.Quick?

My backup is very quick although your first back up will be long.

I would also ensure that you think about what you exclude from a backup - something like a VM disk file would chew through the space on the backup drive.

7.Can you partition the HDD and backup for restoration?

Don't know if you can tell TM specifically which drive - although you could exclude the drives from the backup.
You can select which TM disc is used for backups.
