Am very seriously considering paying off the ramaining 11 months of my Voda contract (£31 per month for 300 mins, unltd txt and 500MB data) and heading to T-Mobile for a shiny new Note 2 (£36 per month, 2000 mins, unltd txt and unltd data).

Was just wondering, do i have to have my port code when i take up new contract to actually be able to move my number, or can it be done after the fact?

Cheers

To make the process smoother you can ask voda for it now and when it is moved (assuming you get released) they usually terminate the contract.

the only thing I'd say is this is extremely rarely a good idea, throwing away £300 :(. you could probably get a note 2 for near that on ebay and sell your current handset for a partial return.

Can't really see it as 'throwing away' £300 tbh....am still going to be buying a handset from the bay for approx £350-400 (if not more from looking at there now) or getting one SIM free for £450 or there abouts.

With the T-Mobile deal, the handset is free, so the money used for buying out the contract is effectively the same if not slightly less, than buying as above.

I am planning on selling my current SGS2 btw, so that has already been factored into my plans

Am still going to need airtime and whilst slightly more expensive than the one i am on now, the T-Mob one works out as better value with the extra minutes and data. Yes, it will equate to an extra £120 over the 24 month period

You're throwing it away because you're paying off your contract but not getting the service for the money.

Even if you want a note two, it'd be more sensible to just keep paying it every month and start up another contract for a Note 2 considering the minutes and data allowance of your current Vodaphone contract is rubbish.

So...what you are saying is keep my contract going and keep paying the £31 per month, get a new contract with a Note 2, use that and not use my Voda contract, which I am still paying for???? So instead of paying the money up front for a service which I will not be using, I spread the same amount out over the remaining time for a service which I will not be using......cant see a difference there really

No, I think he means buy a note 2, stick your current sim in that.
Sell the other phone.

Phones4u may do a deal. They just bought out my dad's remaining 3 months. Bit different to 11, but if you go in with the intention of giving them money, they'll cut you a deal.

To answer you original question, when I rang O2 to terminate the contract, I had a message arrive with the PAC code before we even finished the call. Booked it in with giffgaff and I was only without service 90 mins tops.

I missed out the part about finding a use for it, maybe a friend or family member might get some use out of it for a small amount?

Funnily enough, that's exactly what I've done. I started a new Note 2 contract, and my mum's offered to give me some money towards it in exchange for using it.

Win win really, I'll be getting a note 2 for significantly cheaper than I could if I bought it outright and kept my old SIM or went SIM free.

Is a good win for you there. Unfortunately, there is no win in it for me on that front as Mrs already had contract and no all friends that I know here have no need as they have their own phones.

Am still yet to hear back from Voda on this too
