TimeSpliiters 3 was the last of the series, released in 2008 on Xbox, PS2 and GameCube it was hugely popular with gaming fans throughout. Timesplitters 4 has been a whistle in the wind but no confirmation or whisper had been given on a possible new game.

There were big rumours going around the web in 2011/12 that Time splitters 4 was indeed in development and would be making an appearance with the next-gen consoles. This was the case until the studio developing the series went into administration and Crytek took the reins. Once this happened, they immediately suspended the work on the upcoming shooter indefinitely.

To sweeten the blow, Crytek announced they would release ‘TimeSplitters: Rewind” for both the PS4 and PC. To add to the news further, they said it would be completely free to everyone.

“TimeSplitters Rewind is a fantastic initiative that Crytek continues to support,” Nick Button-Brown, the general manager of games for Crytek

After the takeover when the question was put to TimeSplitters series developer Steve Ellis, “Do you think the series will be developed again for the future?” he replied:

“I don’t think there’s any chance that’s going to happen.”

Now, this is where it gets really interesting, we have given you the background story above so everything is better understood. You may have read the above and think “This is about TimeSplitters not coming back”. You would be wrong.

When Crytek took over the studio, they announced the work on the game was suspended, forever. From a close source which wished to remain unnamed, this was not the case at all. The game was still in very early development as was not going to be ready for the first year of next-gen release. They announced TS: Rewind to almost confirm the end of the series, but this was never the plan.

Our source mentioned in detailed to us, TimeSplitters 4 will be coming to PS4 as an “Exclusive” and describe the game as the “Xbox One killer”. A lot of focus has been put onto the release of Titanfall with the Xbox one but this is one of many cards Sony have up their sleeves for the Sony PS4.

We don’t know when the game will be announced but the real possibility of TimeSplitters 4 is ever more emerging. As more details come to us, we will update you

We're talking about Crytek, with an established IP that was multiplatform in the beginning.

Additionally, fingers cross? Why would you want it to be an exclusive?

The team that made TimeSplitters(Free Radical/Crytek UK) are currently working on Homefront 2 for Crytek so I don't know if we will see another Timesplitters game.

Would love to see another timesplitters (sank oh so many hours into all the others) but this is all just unsubstantiated rumour and conjecture. Someone wake me up when there's some actual news.

Hopefully this can make a come back but I won't get my hopes up until something concrete is announced.
Has the potential to be a great game though as the others were certainly really fun and interesting.

For console shooters, I felt they really lead the way for me back in the day for just being fun and interesting and allowing map creation too to mess about with and 4 player split screen etc.

I meant finger crossed that rumour of it being in developed is true

In the Beggining it was PS2 only, a launch title, only TS2 was multi plat.

As for Exclusive, why not, Dev's get more time to code for just one machine, they can then get the best out of it.

TS and TS 2 have got to be in my top 5 games ever.
Spent many a drunken night 4 player sys link.
Disco with flare guns was the funniest thing ever...I hope it gets released for PC.

What a poor bump :(

With all that happened with Crytek a couple of months ago, Free Radical, aka Crytek UK were disbanded so the chance of Timesplitters is pretty much slim to none. I believe Crytek still own the IP and looking where they are going they wont be making a traditional game if they ever used the IP

EDIT: Actually looks like there a fan-made game might end up being made with some ex-FR staff - Timesplitters Rewind...

ps3ud0

Oh and behead the undead was really hard and probably the reason I spent (and still do spend) so much time on COD Zombies.

I forgot about those modes. I loved that one. And you got to shoot monkeys and things too. They really nailed the fun factor in these games back in the day. Good campaign, crazy multiplayer and interesting mini-games and modes.

I'd buy this in a heartbeat on PSN if it got an HD remake...stranger things have happened - probably...
