I'm sure this has been answered dozens of times, but since 'search' is missing....

What price am I looking at to get my timing belt changed? I've got about 4k miles to go until it is due so I've got a bit of time to look around and get a decent price from a resepctable garage.
Also, what about a major service with spark plugs, all fluids etc? I've only had two minor services since I bought the car, where I think they just did oil, filters etc.
It's a focus with 76k miles.

my focus is going in to Ford tomorrow for a major service 62k. i am paying £180 plus extra for an MOT.

I asked about the cam belt change but was told it should be changed 100k or 10 years.

hope this helps

My service book says 80K. Sorry to keep harping on about it.
£200 from a ford dealer probably means ~£120 from an independent garage. That sounds good to me. If I can get the major service and timing belt for £280 I'll be happy.

Some are 80k/5 years some are 100k/10 yrs. depends which version of engine. Id get it done now if I were you

Thanks. I'm definitely getting it done at 80K. My next service is due at 81,500 so I'll just get them both at the same time. The belt is only going to need done once in the life of the car anyway so it doesn't really make a huge difference anyway.

Theres a Zetec S and a Zetec SE engine, cant remember which one is 100,000/10 yrs though

The older version is found mostly on the pre 1998 Mondeos. The Focus introduction was after the Mondeo moved to Blacktop Zetec-SE's.

Not sure about the Mondeos, but with the Focus 1.6 (presuming OP's is a 1.6)
Zetec S was pre 2001, and the Zetec SE is still being used in new Focus's

1.8/2.0 are Zetec-E whilst the 1.4/1.6 are Zetec-SE.

I know that the Zetec-E has a recommended change at 100k or 10 years, for the belt that is, however the tensioner has been known to fail around the 80k mark so I think the general consensus is to change around then.
