Timing of Halo3 Stroke of genius?

I was just thinking about the timing of Halo3. End of September. I was wondering why they placed it then, obviously at the time R* were saying October for GTA4 so H3 needed to fit around that. However I think its a bit more than that.

MS see this game as a major console shifter, they are just about to release the 65nm processor and the Elite in the EU. So this game will help them shift the old stock.

If you look at the time of the month they are releasing the game, its after the 20th. Most companies pay their employees between the 18th and the 31st. So we can see MS expect / want consoles to be shifted with this game. As they are releasing is smack bang in the middle of pay week.

Ok so that bit is really no surprise to anyone MS want to sell consoles... Blah Blah... However here is where I think it gets clever. They have now got October, November and December of Timmy whining about wanting to play Halo3 and needing a 360 more than anything else in the world. Anyone with a 360 that wants Halo will no doubt have bought the game before Xmas. Anyone child (all gamers are children )that wants the game but does not have the console has 3 solid months to cascade this info to their technically inept parents/Better halfs.

So Xmas may see record 360 sales.

So when it comes to Xmas there are going to be a lot of gamers out there wanting games for presents Lets assume each console sold gets one game for Xmas. - Where are we now 11.6 Million 360s sold?- Lets say in the H3 frenzy it gets to 12.6 million by End of October, and By Xmas Day 15 Million*, - I don't know is that a generous or conservative estimate? - Either way 15 Million 360 Consoles all getting at least 1 game at Xmas. Not bad eh?

They have some very clever minds behind the marketing of the game, there's no doubt about that.

Can't wait for it :D

I dont see it shifting as many consoles this time around as the halo2. Surely most little timmys would have been too young to play halo2 anyway.

My nephews one of those little timmys and he will never have heard of halo. After seeing transformers he would be just as exciting getting that on the 360 as Halo3.

15 million consoles in 2 years and 2 xmas's isnt all that great tbh.

Yes, I think GTAIV would have problems with Halo and not the other way around. Look at Halo 2 and San Andreas - the attach ratio for Halo 2 is much higher.

The only flaw in your rant is that Halo is rubbish. ;)

Bah to you. I loved the original and wouldn't be suprised at all if 4 player Halo 3 co-op turns out to be the most fun gaming to be had over the next few years \o/

I would, cause the most fun will be DEATHMATCH!

Some of my mates are waiting for halo to buy an xbox but most of them are going to get a PS3 in a years time.

Halo isnt that good, it can go either way really. I do enjoy the game a lot though! MP is awesome with you guys!

I was a big fan of Halo, Wasn't too happy with Halo 2, Didn't like playing as the Arbiter to be honest.

So i dunno what Halo 3 has in store, But i pray its as good as the first one.

Aye. I found the first Halo on the xbox to be awesome in single player and great fun in multi. With Halo 2 Bungie dropped the ball so much that I half suspect they got lucky with the balance in the first game. Either way - i'll be happy playing co-op with mates, so it's win win.

another reason why i miss my ps3, more 360's are gonna sell, so theres constantly gonna be more support from devlopers on it and stuff... :(

Ida liked halo 2 more if it wasn't for the crap level design, a friend and myself played through the first one (with must frustration due to the copy paste level design), with halo 2 we just got bored half way through.

Hopefully this time around the levels weren't created exclusivly with "ctrl c ctrl v"
