Timings for Giel DDR2-800

Hi,

I have 2 sticks of Giel DDR2-800 in a Gigabyte DS3 rev3.0.

I am currently running a an E6600 C2D @ 3.4Ghz (8x425) which means the mem is running overspec @ (2x425) 850 Mhz.

I am unsure about the timings of this module @ (400) 800mhz im sure i read somewhere it was meant to be 4-4-4-12, but the SPD on this sstem seems to read 5-5-5-18 @ (400) 800Mhz.

Is the SPD set by the mobo manufacturer in bios, or read by the bios from the memory module (and set by mem module manufacturer) ?

On top of this would it be feasible to run rhe system @ 4-4-4-12 at 850mhz fsb?

Ok chrs, systems running fine at 3.4Ghz but noticed the mem is at 5-6-6-20!
Will try to adjust settings in bios, think its ctrl+F1 while booting.

Excellent, appears to be running fine at 3.4Ghz 8x multi (425x2) 850Mhz bus @ 4-4-4-12. 2.1Vdimm

And core temps are a nice steady 22C idle!

nice, i can only get mine to run like that when i set it to 5-5-5-15

Are u sure your Vdimm is at least 2.1v?

That is minimum for the Giel DDR2-800, but gigabyte default is only 1.8v.

I also had problems till i set PCI at 102mhz

Hmm wasnt 100% stable at 3.4ghz, had to drop back to 3.2, increased vdimm and vcore to no effect, may have to slacken timings or increase multi and drop fsb ;/

That on air? If so then gotta be one seriously cold room.

Room was @ 20C at the time, i have an XP-120 with AS5 on cpu+ 120mm fan on it,also i have side of case off with a 12" desk fan blowin into it.

This means its very cool, yet reasonably quiet.

At the moment the core is 25C @ ambient 20C, which is 5C difference, and i cant figure out why...cos before there was only 2-3C difference.

Maybe my deskfan has moved...

Yeah think thats what is was cos i just moved it so the airflow (outer portion of fan blades) is actually directly onto 120mm fan on cpu and it dropped 2C almost straight away.
