Hey all,
I need a bit of a hand tuning up my timings, mainly tRD, I have read a few articles on the tRD and phase shift but I am having a bit of trouble applying the theory.
Here are the articals for background reading on how I got to where I am (The POST equation doesn't apply for me, different board):

First thing I have done is read the SPD data off from my RAM and applied those in BIOS, if anyone has a X38-DQ6 this is what they equate to.
ACT to ACT Delay(tRRD) : tRRD
Rank Write to READ Delay : tWTR (Memset reading is tCL-1+BL/2+tWTR, where BL is 8)
Write To Precharge Delay : tWR (Memset reading is tCL-1+BL/2+tWR, where BL is 8)
Refresh to ACT Delay : tRFC
Read To Precharge Delay : tRTP
So to start off I have got my ram set at 4-4-4-12 at 400Mhz FSB 1:1, with the advanced timings set to their EEP numbers. At tRD AUTO (12) I get 6732Mb/s Read, 80.1 ns. At tRD 8, 7424MB/s, 69.8ns. At tRD 7, 7662MB/s, 67.5ns. At tRD 6 it wont post and just beeps.
My Ram has an EPP profile at 500Mhz so I can make it go faster (5-5-5-15) so I will set those values and use a 2.4 multi on 425FSB (gives max CPU freq 3.4Ghz) and see what I get. I don't want to overclock the RAM really as I have had stuff fail easily so I am sticking to the EPP timings on it.
Its a balancing act to try and get tRD low as I can and maximise my throughput but I need a bit of guidance in the FSB, multi, tRD tadeoffs.
Here is my current BIOS template for reference.
