Hey all,
I need a bit of a hand tuning up my timings, mainly tRD, I have read a few articles on the tRD and phase shift but I am having a bit of trouble applying the theory.
Here are the articals for background reading on how I got to where I am (The POST equation doesn't apply for me, different board):

http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3208&p=5

First thing I have done is read the SPD data off from my RAM and applied those in BIOS, if anyone has a X38-DQ6 this is what they equate to.
ACT to ACT Delay(tRRD) : tRRD
Rank Write to READ Delay : tWTR (Memset reading is tCL-1+BL/2+tWTR, where BL is 8)
Write To Precharge Delay : tWR (Memset reading is tCL-1+BL/2+tWR, where BL is 8)
Refresh to ACT Delay : tRFC
Read To Precharge Delay : tRTP

So to start off I have got my ram set at 4-4-4-12 at 400Mhz FSB 1:1, with the advanced timings set to their EEP numbers. At tRD AUTO (12) I get 6732Mb/s Read, 80.1 ns. At tRD 8, 7424MB/s, 69.8ns. At tRD 7, 7662MB/s, 67.5ns. At tRD 6 it wont post and just beeps.

My Ram has an EPP profile at 500Mhz so I can make it go faster (5-5-5-15) so I will set those values and use a 2.4 multi on 425FSB (gives max CPU freq 3.4Ghz) and see what I get. I don't want to overclock the RAM really as I have had stuff fail easily so I am sticking to the EPP timings on it.
Its a balancing act to try and get tRD low as I can and maximise my throughput but I need a bit of guidance in the FSB, multi, tRD tadeoffs.

Here is my current BIOS template for reference.

Hey all,
I have done quite a bit of testing and benching at various bus speeds and strapping and here are my results, I have made the FSB's try and match the speeds my RAM is rated for in the EPP.

The 2.66C ones look promising as they are the only ones to hit 6 tRD albeit a bit sketchy, thoughts on further exploration?
At the mo I am using the bottom entry as it provides my fastest CPU speed and has the lowest latency and highest throughput, using 4 4 8 66 4 for advanced timings. When I set Performance Enhance to Turbo I get 8614MB/s and latency of 59.5ns, even though Memset readout isn't any different I guess it tweaks something invisible (Finally broke 60ns yay)

Hmmmm last night computer was operating fine today I fire it up and the board just keeps beeping at me and then cycles, I dont think it likes one of my settings now its had a chance to think about it.
Does anyone know what beeping means? Have I violated a timing rule in the mobo or something?

This beeping is getting on my nerves, I dont even know what it means. I have 2x2Gb of Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 4-4-4-12 2v has anyone overclocked these things or is it my motherboard being picky.
Trying to follow http://thetechrepository.com/showthread.php?t=195 so I can get my ram latency down before re-tackling tRD, and hopefully find why on earth its BEEPING.

Edit: Managed to get the beeping to go away for a bit enough but it seems at 901Mhz at 4-4-4-12 my motherboard beeps again, 899Mhz its ok with no errors in memtest.... grr

It may be that you need more (G)MCH OverVoltage Control OverVoltage Control to stabalise lower trd at higher fsb.

With that said, I also need +0.1v to reach 400 fsb stable using 2.00B strap (333) TRD 8. Trd 7 is abit unstable (prime failure in 5 mins) and 6 is a no go. I tried to raise (G)MCH OverVoltage Control which did stabalise trd 7 in prime 95 (no errors) but system crashed after 30 mins or so. I add more gmch and system failure in 10 mins. More gmach and failure in 5 mins. So for me, It seems any tweaking I do, im stuck in the +0.1v gmach as a maximum.

Also, I have to keep performance enhance set to standard. Extreme is only stable when i use the 2.00D strap (400) but the result is better with standard and 2.00B strap for me at 400fsb.
