Timings on Ballistix PC3200 2*512?

I have built a new pc and left everything at stock. I checked the timings in BIOS and on auto the values are set at:

CAS: 2.5
Trcd: 3
Trp: 3
Tras: 8
Trc: 11
Trfc: 14
Trwt: 4
Twr: 3
1T/2T: 2T

The Crucial website indicates the timings for this RAM is 2-2-2-6. My question is if I tighten up those timings what do I do with the others? I guess the last setting should be 1T as I have 2 sticks running in dual channel.

Also will this help on the paging issues I seem to be having gaming? The games seem to hesitate as they page :(

Help and information on this is appreciated,

Nick

ASUS A8N-SLI Premium | AMD 64X2 3800+ | 2*512MB Ballistix
MSI Geforce 6800GS | Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160GB | Hiper Type-R 580W

My Ballistix defaulted to 2-2-2-6-1T at 200Mhz

This is what I would try in your case:
CAS: 2.0
Trcd: 2
Trp: 2
Tras: 6
Trc: 11
Trfc: 14
Trwt: 4
Twr: 3
1T/2T: 1T

Well I tried these timings last night and my game hesitations and glitches got worse rather than better. It seems to have real problems paging. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers,
Nick

A few things to try:
- Increase the memory voltage to 2.7V or 2.8V (2.8V might require active cooling though)
- What game do you get problems in? might be because of your dual core CPU?
- Disable unneeded services/programs in the taskbar to free up RAM

Still no improvement....

Well I tried increasing the voltage to 2.7 with no improvement. The game is City of Heroes/Villains. I have also tried the demo of Civ IV (damn...forgot how much fun Civ was, gonna have to get that now) and noticed hesitations in some of the animations that should have been smooth (the button to end turns usually fades from green to red but sometimes would just be red suddenly or at least go from green to halfway to red)

I might roll the BIOS back to the original 1009 (using 1011-006 beta) and try the older chipset drivers (6.65) from the ASUS website as I'm currently using the 6.70 from NVidia.

[edit]
Curiously CPU-Z shows the SPD of the sticks to be 2-2-2-8 rather than 2-2-2-6? When I get home I'll post screenshots.

Any more ideas would be great...

Cheers,
Nick

Spd also showed mine to be 2-2-2-8. I run 2-2-2-6 with no problems but have to use 2.75V as otherwise I get memory errors in Memtest etc. I also experienced pauses when I was sorting my overclock/timings - but only with certain combinations. In the end I found one that gave me good performance and no pauses (240, mem on divider at 200 with 2-2-2-6-1T).

The PC4000 runs at 2-2-2-5 1t at 200mhz, give that a go. Can't see why the 3200 and 4000 should be different at 200mhz?

Same chips but different PCB, the PC4000 might be set up to run faster with slower timings while the PC3200 might be optimised to run at fast timings at 200Mhz

Hmmm......my mate just built his pc over the weekend and apart from the motherboard ( an ASUS A8N-E rather than my A8N-SLI Premium) he is using the same memory, cpu and psu. His memory timings on auto resolved to 2-2-2-8 2T at default voltage.

Could this be a mobo issue? Is the board not picking up the settings correctly or not suppying enough power? Forgive me but this is my first ever build and I'm kinda swinging in the dark on this :(

Cheers,
Nick
