Anyone done this, can you to it for cheap and yourself, I mean ultra cheap as it's a gimmicky thing so no point in spending money. I believe you heat on film or something, I though it could look a bit cool?

This is a pretty good guide if you want to DIY, keep in mind the legalities over here of not tinting the front windows more than a really small amount, 7% or something i think?

This can be a nightmare, a friend of mine tried it (he has a sign writing business so thought he'd do his own car for a laugh) and he said you have to remove the glass to get a decent job done, especially if the rear windows wind down as they can get caught and peel off into the mechanism.

Weird OP. You state you think it's gimmicky, but also that it's cool and you want to do it

If you want to do it properly you'll need to take your doors apart to get the glass out.

You don't need to take the glass out, nobody is doing that. You probably do need to take the door cards off though. Tbf, don't bother trying yourself, 99% of the time the result will be horrible, get a professional to do it.

Just make sure the film is actually UV resistant or it will go purple after a while :D

When I had a go the rear window was by far the hardest part (in a Focus ST).

If it's a works car/van then fine, diy and the odd mark/bubble isn't bad. But, if it's your daily driver then any bubble, crease or dirt under the film will soon be obvious and annoying... There's a reason why people do it professionally.
