Title says it all, i've got no idea how it got there aside from me not really watching what I was doing.

There's a tiny drop of it in the pins, connecting say 3 pins, 3800 X2 if that makes any dif... before i go making it worse how would you go about removing it?

Thanks

Use a combination of Isopropynol and something small and soft, such as a cotton bud stick(Is that small enough?) AS isn't hugely conductive, but I wouldnt risk it on such a critical place.

I'm not 100% sure but it looks to me like the chips can safely be washed. I never tried it and I will not try it :)

a credit card fits down the lines of the pins perfect. Run one down where the paste is.

Whats with the obsession with alcohol on this forum???
You all should be in the AA (and not the car one)

omg i cant believe u guys HAVENT suggested a toothbrush!!

use whatever solvent u like, petrol, alcohol, whitespirit e.t.c and just wash it out with a toothbrush. oh and even if you wanted to you can rinse the cpu under the tap, i think the ihs is airtight if not then cover any holes first.

Advice I won't be following anytime soon, I'm afraid :o

I'm sorry, but regardless of whether it's actually safe or not (doesn't seem like it, in any case), psychologically it's like putting your pet puppy over an open fire to dry him after a bath - sure, he might be fine afterwards, but he could also end up roast puppy too.

LOL, I wouldn't like to bet that the IHS silicon is 100% sealed. I'd use IPA in a shallow dish and keep the CPU horizontal, just dip up to the pins. Kitchen towel folded in half and soaked in IPA fits between the pins very well.

nah, more like holding the puppy under a hose and being bright enough not to let him go sniffing near electric sockets :p

you can actually get pc parts wet as long as they dry fully and have no residue hidden away. it was just a **** take to those that are really scared to even pick up their cpu.

the best option would be the one i said first... using a toothbrush and solvent and brush it out of the pins.

No swearing.

When i buy my new CPU i will be using the freezer 64, does this come with its own thermal compound, if so how much should you use, as i've had problems with stuff like this before......or should i just use the AMD heatsink, to preserve the warranty (or does this have nothing to do with the fan ?)

Its preapplied so no worries there. How are amd going to know what fan you used?
