I spent hours and hours with this, so I feel I should share the tips to basically save anyone who googles this in the future a lot of wasted time and effort.
This assumes you are trying to install Windows 2008 64bit std / ent from DVD with smart start. Also it assumes your blade center DOESNT have an onboard DVD drive. This assume the bl460 is powered off to begin with.
1. Connect the blade 'kvm' output
2. plug in external USB DVD drive into the kvm USB slot closest to the USB icon (port 1?) - Make sure your USB external DVD Drive is powered by a wall socket, blades do not seem to have enough usb power to power the drive up for boot
3. Plug in local monitor if needed
4. Open / log in too blade center http console
5. Open an intergrated service console (i didnt use fullscreen) ILO window
6. Do not power on.
7. From ILO mount your CD drive icon (even though its not local to your laptop, it will see it as the local CD drive to the BL460... this confused the hell out of me)
8. Ensure the 'mount' option is depressed (so it says unmount next to CD drive)
9. If not already done so, power up external USB DVD drive and insert smart start CD.
10. Power on blade
Your smart start CD should now autorun!
I post this as I was having a hell of a lot of trouble with this over the last few days what with mounting things via ILO, the two different types of ILO etc etc.
Im sure it will be of no interest or may even seem simple to you guys, but to the random googler who finds this one day
I hope its useful!
