Tips for a C&C n00b?

Im keep getting my arse handed to me on C&C, never played it before and though id give Tiberium Wars & Kanes Wrath a shot, and as much as Im new to it as ive never played one before, Im well and truely getting my arse handed to me on a plate.

Anyone got any useful hints that I can use to try and beat a mate of mine on LAN?

Ive been playing around for a few hours now and am starting to get the hang of it. A mate of mine was saying on GDI you can take zone troopers and but them into one of the vehicles to make an effective army for AA and blasting everything on the ground, but ill be damned if I can do it, anyone got any ideas?

Thats what I do pretty much, i build an airforce, a load of guys and then a few long range tanks and a few short range tanks then send them in. By the time the tanks get there the planes haev wiped out the majority of the enemies defences
