tips for half life 2 death match

got myself and the kids this on steam,any tips on how not to get owned by the kids.
everytime i go on i get blasted very easily

use grav gun constantly :) pick up sumthing and use it as a shield when not in range for killing =) i always used 2
 
Hahaha getting owned by the kids, it's a sign you're getting old m8.

I bet they tell you you're too old to be playing games aswell :D
 
when i am on the servers certain people seem invincible, they jump highter than anyone and kill first shot,surely its not all practise ,is it their pc gear or set or something else

You need to learn to grav nade - roll a grenade and pick it up with the grav gun to throw it at people. Takes a bit of practice to get the timing right.
I have grenade bound to middle mouse click and grav gun to the front left mouse button, which makes it easier.
Also got crowbar on the mouse, means when I see someone with rockets (on resistance for example) I can quickly whip out the crowbar and run at them.
Magnum headshots are normally one shot kill and crossbow takes 100 health without armour so they're obviously important weaps to pick up and get to grips with.
People shouldn't be able to jump higher but strafe jumping will get people across much longer distances than a normal jump

Jump and crouch makes you appear to jump higher. Also makes you more difficult to hit.

In all my time playing HL2 : DM I've never come across anyone who I have thought was cheating, although I'm accused of it myself pretty much every other time I play. Really annoys me... As for killing with one hit, go for headshots. And improve your aim.

Anyway, my biggest tip is learn to grav-grenade throw:
* drop grenade (right mouse)
* pick up with grav gun
* throw with grav gun

You have 5 clicks before it explodes, and the range you want it to travel will determine when you need to throw it. Practice on an empty server until you can hit stationary objects, then practice priming nades on the run. When you perfect the technique you will become somewhat godlike, especially on crowded servers :)
 
Hahahaha shooting nades with the grav gun, that's quality.

Bet that takes some skill to get good at!
 
a trick i learned was if you jump when some1 lobs an object at you that should normally kill you in one it will infact not and you can just lob something back at them :D
 
Not played this in ages! Such a fun game, its mad! Especially with the mavity gun. you get a certain satisfaction from smashing people up with toilets. Love the magnum and crossbow too :)
 
Master the crossbow, you'll be unstoppable.

Try to locate health/suit and play around them, this gives you a good supply but also cuts it off from the other players. :)

It depends on the object, but yes glancing blows are much less damaging than head-on hits.

The best thing to do, though, is try to catch the object thrown at you. Keep RMB pressed and face the attacker as he throws the object. Some things like tables and filing cabinets are fairly easy to catch, whereas others like radiators are pretty much impossible.

Also, if you can, try to get right in close to the guy holding the object. If you strafe at this range it makes you more difficult to hit, and if you can get in behind the object you can unload into his head and he can't do anything.

Getting in close works with grav-grenade throwers as well. When the guy has a primed nade in his grav gun, run right at him. It will confuse him and all but the best players will usually panic and either blow themselves up (satisfying even if it takes you down too...) or throw it too early to avoid suicide, leaving you to fill them with lead. At range, you can try to catch the grenades but this takes some skill.
