Tips for Making a Train Commute Better

Get a personal vehicle, it's the only way to improve public transport by removing the public part.

I used to do frequent commutes into London from Stevenage/Baldock, i found it fine most of the time, so long as i have my music all is well.

Only thing i struggled to deal with is the heaters on full blast in the winter.

OP - buy a book, or listen to music.

Don't do what I did today and get very involved with watching a YouTube video and get on the wrong poxy train..

What do you actually do in them situations? Do you just get off at the next stop and try find the next train back? I'm a nervous traveler and anxiety starts creeping in. Getting on the wrong train would be my biggest worry :p I travel very little as possible though because of it.

Yep get off ASAP and then jump on the next train back to where you've just come from and try not to balls it up again :D
I'm pretty sure everyone who's used trains at least semi regularly has done it at some point, especially with some of the terrible signage at some stations.

Not going to lie I had a big chuckle at that one, must have been one heck of a YouTube video!

In regards to OP I normally just ensure my phone has full charge as I don't always get a seat next to a socket and my earphones. Stick on the music and then catch a wee bit more shut eye :p

I tend to read or listen to music. It goes quicker when you're not thinking about it.

It's actually a good time of the day to try and be productive. A couple hours a day devoted to reading? Why not.

My pet hate though, is getting on a quiet carriage only for some idiot to proceed to get on and talk loudly through the whole journey either on the phone or to their equally moronic mate sat next to them.

Read. Sleep.

Commute. Repeat.

Understand that some people are pushy, unfriendly and not worth your time and energy.
Sit comfortably, Smile, Enjoy the journey
Try to be friendly to your fellow passengers (it can be nice to talk to complete strangers and it is actually one of the perks of public transport, so you might as well utilize it if the opportunity appears)
Don't over talk to people regularly else they will avoid you
Bring something nice to eat and drink

Bring your smartphone and headphones so you can listen to music and watch something should you feel like it.
Download some audiobooks
Install Spotify, Pinterest, YouTube, BBCi, Feedly and Twitter on your smartphone so you have something to browse.
Ensure you have a decent data allowance on your phone contract.

Bring something to read

I used to quite like my commute. I'd either use the downtime for leisure activities, e.g. read or to do something more productive (did revision, used to maintain a blog, other laptop related chores to save time at home).

I cycle in now, I do enjoy it more but I miss the opportunity to spend 2 hrs a day reading.

I just watch TV series on my phone, I've watched House of Cards and I'm currently rewatching Game of Thrones for the umpteenth time

Watch tv shows/films
Read books/comics

Audiobooks are a great shout.
Read.
Music.
Sleep.
Catch up on TV.

Mainly sleep. However be careful, if you end up a snoring, drooling mess every time you fall asleep you can feel a bit sheepish when you wake up and see everybody looking at you.
