Hi chaps,

Does anyone have any tips for running in a dusty environment. Back story is I have a free desktop coming from a clear out at work and the plan is to use this as a dedicated media center. I live on the ground floor of a converted house so have a good 4ft of space under my floorboards and so can have the machine directly under my TV and stereo. However it is dusty under there, and not the easy to filter stuff, its very fine particles! As I see it there are two options....

1) Use the current case and build some sort of filtered enclosure around it (fine filters but big surface area to get the flow through it)

2) Mod the original case and try to improve the filtering + manage the air flow (a bit like a clean room with a down draft)

Any thoughts welcome!

Give the area under the floor a good vaccuum, then seal it with something appropriate - paint etc.

After that, use fine mesh dust filters for your case.

I've used a similar area elsewhere in the flat for random storage. I used pva + floor paint on that and it still gets dusty down there!

So no one keen on option 1? I'm pretty sure I could build a decent enclosure for less than the price of floor paint, its pricey for good quality stuff!

Why don't you just create custom fine fan filters for the intakes. Having an enclosure seems a bit overkill.

Give the place a good clean and fan filters would be my best bet. Dust is always going to win at the end of the day, just worry about "damage" control.
