Tips for selling custom PC

Hi folks,

So the PC I currently have in my sig wants a refresh so I'm deciding to sell. Everything still works perfectly I just want to build another PC aha. I would like to just bundle it with the 320GB HDD and keep the other drives.

So my questions are
-Where would be the best place to sell hardware?
-Are there rules/guidelines to advertising it to make it more appealing?
-I have a genuine windows I want to keep for myself, would it be best to install the OS without the key and its up to the buyer to activate or leave completely

Try Gumtree I pick up a few good items on there from time to time and see a lot of custom systems on there, I cant say if they sell or not but they generally dont stay on there too long.

List everything it has even if its custom screws, some people are impressed by big lists

also people without a lot of knowledge see the word gaming and a lot of components and think theyv struck gold but dont lie as it can come back to bite you

Just dont ever say anything in it has been over clocked as this puts a lot of people off.

Sell it without an OS, if they insist on seeing it run with an OS install linux on it for them to see it running. Dont put anything illegal on it as you dont know who your selling to.

A question about what you said though, why would mentioning over clocked put people off?

Because overclocking is another way of saying you used it in a non-standard way.

Anyone not 100% happy with the concept of overclocking will look at that and think you've been abusing it, lowering its reliability.

As mentioned Gumtree is best bet. Or word of mouth but not often you get someone interested in a gaming machine at the same time your trying to sell one.

Exactly as Hotwired states, people unused to the concept of overclocking think something that has been overclocked has been run to the brink of catastrophic failure for its lifetime and believe it will fail within days of them getting it, some feel that you have burned it out and this is your reason for sale so never admit to an overclock if your trying to sell something (I know this goes against me saying dont lie but all you have basically done is possibly reduce the lifespan of the item from 15 years to 10 years and the minute they get a corrupt OS or corrupt driver they will come screaming you sold them a burned out pc).

^ This. It's kind of the equivalent of selling a second hand car and mentioning how many laps it's done round the Nurburgring.
