Tips for stopping smoking!

Righto,

I've stopped smoking today, I'm sick of it. The immediate and long-term health risks, the smell, the expense. You know the story.

So any tips for helping me along the way? It's been fairly easy so far, but I've only been awake for 4 hours :o :)
 
Get rid of them ALL.

I've seen so many people keep a pack or two "Just in case". It's absolutely pointless and makes it far easier to just start again, rather than actually having to go into the shop and buy some.

Chuck them all away. Everything related to them too.

Avoid social situations with other smokers. I used to smoke a fair bit, then I managed to quit. Worst thing I did was then go out on a night out with several smoking friends. I managed to only smoke for the evening, but I really regret that 1 lapse in will power :)
 
Apples, apples and more apples. When you want a smoke, eat an apple. Soon you'll be on 20 apples a day like I was. :)

Ps. Make sure you buy small apples.
 
Every smoker has a time when they light up out of routine rather than wanting a smoke. Break that habit and your on the right road.
Even if you cannot reach the end of today without having a smoke, try again tomorrow and the next day. "Never give up trying to give up"

I purposely went out and got drunk the weekend of the first week I quit because I knew it would be the toughest test. I passed with flying colours and still haven't touched a ciragette in 2½ years. Smell your clothes in the morning after a night out, that smell should make you want to stop smoking anyway.

Also as stated above, throw away EVERYTHING smoking related.

I quit by deciding I didn't want to smoke anymore whilst walking to work. Threw 30 fags down the drain and that was it.

Don't post on here about it. The whingy non-smoker types will make you want a cigarette within minutes. ;)

Just dont think to yourself I'm not buyin any or having anything to do with tobacciana in the house and then say well if I scab just this one... Dont beg cigarrettes and maybe think of a reward to help, like an iPod or a holiday or something after a certain amount of time off the fags.

Thanks for the advice and support! It's going alright, went to the gym which took my mind off the ciggys and hopefully the endorphines should see me through the rest of the day.

Thankfully with the smoking ban, drinking and smoking isn't so natural anymore - I'd have to stand in the rain whilst having a smoke which makes stopping a whole lot easier IMO.

I too am TRYING :p I’ve got a couple of Paul McKenna smoking hypnosis mp3s to give a go but am too scared Ill get brainwashed :eek:

This is my second time this year I’ve tried to give up hopefully this time I will :)
