Tips for stopping smoking!

Didn't really smoke much outside pubs but when I quit I had to break the routine inside pubs. I ended up eating loads of peanuts which probably wasn't great healthwise, but hopefully better than smoking!

After a few weeks it didn't really affect me anymore, and I really notice going into smoking pubs now and the smell on your clothes after a night out!

I used those lozenges and the first time I failed but the second time I did it. :D

bin around 2 years now and I havent even picked one up...

the only way to stop is to just stop.

I know it sounds silly but until you really want to you wont.

I have smoked for 17 years 20-30 a day, tried to stop loads of times best i achieved was 1 week

Then at xmas this year I had really had enough of smoking so i just got up and said to myself I won't smoke anymore.

then to prove a point with a friend I went on holiday a few weeks back smoked 20 a day again whilst away, plane landed I threw fags away I now no longer smoke.

Its all in yer head, If you want to stop you can .

Your brain your choice.

isnt nicotine addiction 100% psychological? if so, just STOP, theres nothing stopping you

It's both physical and psychological up until the 4 day mark apparently. From then on just psychological.

I have stopped, I'm eating my hand as I type (ran out of food).

ah cool didnt know that

i'd just get a stash of patches/gum/sucky sweet things and just stop

just stop, shrugg off any gaggin, dont let it bother you and just get on with whatever needs to be done

that way you normaly lose the urge for a smoke within 3-4 days, you'll get small boughts of serious gaggin (the physical addiction part of it) within the first couple of days, just have a cup of coffee or tea if it hits hard (may help break the association with a smoke and the cuppa), the hard gaggin bought will faid within a min (which is the only annoying part about stopping)

Update!!!

Bet you're all hella-excited.

Twinges here and there, still quat thus far. I know it's not a word. Things taste better and I can smell stuff already - it's awesome.

Beware the pub. The only twinges I got were when I saw people on TV smoking. When I saw people smoking in the street and could smell it there was no desire to try.

Two years, two months, two weeks, five days, 1 hour, 42 minutes and 46 seconds. 16161 cigarettes not smoked, saving £3,902.98. Life saved: 8 weeks, 2 hours, 45 minutes.

Day 5 and things are going well. Not had a cig since Sunday evening and the cravings are pretty much gone. Apparently the physical addiction is now gone which is noticable actually; I no longer receed into an irritable incoherent state of withdrawl whenever I get a craving.

For some reason I just found it easier this time, I tried last year a couple of times but the cravings got the better of me. Guess I was just more determined this time. It's funny how it works.

Also been to the pub twice since I've stopped, and although I've had cravings I've stuck to my guns  The smoking ban has helped no end in this respect.

good luck to you. I stopped in december, and trust me after 17 years of smoking, it atually gets easier each day> Every now and then I fancy one but the "want" goes in a few minutes. Just keep yourself occupied, take up a hoobie etc.

I feel better for it

Yeah, seemingly all ex smokers get a craving every now and then. Maybe it's best to just think of how hard it was to quit when it happens.

@Voltar, just went cold turkey as I figured I'd have to be without nicotine at some point so may as well start the withdrawl asap. Bought a shed load of apples (thanks messiah ;)), started going to the gym more often, nearly every day in fact, which helped remind me why I'm doing it.

I could certainly do with a pair of boobies to play with tbh ;) though I'll have to make do with my moobs atm! :p

No, it's an addictive drug! It takes 3 days for the nicotine to completely leave your body, after that it's all psychological.

Good luck with the quitting, almost 2 years for me now.

apparently if you go 21 days doing/not doing something it becomes habit....

sounds stupid, but i've tried giving up sweets/chocolate and am unable to do it yet. I constantly have cravings for anything sweet. Longest i've gone is 4 days
