Tips on 7970 watercooling?

Argh it's only Mayhems then a flush should get rid of it easily. Always loved their stuff haven't seen it stain a block yet.

Should I buy new water though? I've got some deionised stuff that's been sat in its plastic bottle for about a year. Still ok to use?

Having a bit of a nightmare cleaning off the thermal paste (bloody hell msi did you just grab a handful, lob it at the card and hope?)

The small metal bits around the main chip I assume are transistors they're pretty coated in thermal paste(the old msi stuff). Does this need to be removed or is it supposed to be there?

Haven't got round to cleaning the plate bit yet.

Any advice?

You don't need to remove as that thermal paste is not conductive (some are, so be careful)
But on my cards I had to remove, my OCD would never let me keep my chip like that :p

cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol will do the job.

Yeah I got off my fat arse and went to asda to buy some cotton buds :D.

Cleaned up a treat! So lucky I was paranoid enough to check the re paste when I took the block off it some had squirted out :eek:(mine is conductive). 3 attempts(and about 80 cotton buds) later it looks ok :).

Crosses fingers!

Edit:balls there's an issue either with me or the monsoon compression fittings. They don't actually grab the tube. It works free slightly via mavity so I'm reluctant to put any water or pressure into the loop.

Both 16/10 tube and compressions so I'm at a complete loss :(. Posted in CS so I'm sure they'll set me right as always :).

Noice! No magic smoke :D.

Gone from;

57 idle
82 load

To;

24 idle
36 load

I assume unigine valley bench is an adequate load test(don't really want to fur mark it).

Only downside is I may have knocked something as I'm getting a bit of coil whine which I didn't have before(or it was masked by the stock cooler fans :D).

Thanks for the help again everyone :).

My cpu is the hottest thing now at 30 idle and 53load :confused:.

I7 3820k at stock volts but 4.3ghz

It's only slightly warmer than pre gpu so I think this is as good as it gets.

The fans were pretty loud :D.

It's not really a show off kind of rig :(. It's a mainly work some gaming rig.

(Potato cam 6+)

Still got some cabling to sort out around the edge.

X79 is great I'm not using it to its full potential (multi gpu wise). Looking around for a decent 3930k or 4930k at the moment as I could do with a couple more cores.
