I'm moving into a new house with the girlfriend and obviously need a phone line and broadband so since cable isn't available I thought Tiscali would be the best option since there is no line rental to pay and for £20 a month for 8meg broadband, phone and TV is pretty damn good.

How's everyones experience with them, also I take it the Tiscali box is just a wireless router with ethernet connections that also connects to the TV and phone?

No, they're awful.

To be fair though...if you're just after basic web browsing then they could be a good choice.

If you want anything better though, I'd go for another ISP.

What does www.samknows.co.uk say is available in your area?

If you can get o2, look for the friends/family deal on here and you can get phoneline+inet for ~£19/month.

shockingly bad - left them about 1 year ago with horrific traffic shaping, terrible connection speeds and even worse customer service.

They are really bad. Poor speeds, over aggressive controls/throttling, shocking customer service. They also over charged us £15 the other month by lowering our monthly limit by 5gb without saying anything.

They are fine for me usually.

The past couple of days its been a bit odd...

Usually around 3.5mb/s download.

O2 / Be is getting enabled at my excahnge on the 30th, so might try and convince my dad to change to one of them, only thing is that we get our phone calls free with Tiscali and thats really the main reason why they went for Tiscali.

used to have tiscali 2 year ago, ok back then but they are so bad, my girlfriend had them, they were so bad had truble with youtube and bbc iplayer watching stuff, and all she did was went of facebook, worst isp ever.

I've definitely found problems with some major websites. Another one (which I blame on Pipex/tiscali but have no proof) is with COD4. When I load up multiplayer and refresh servers I get them all fine and quick with decent pings. When I refresh a second time in that session it's takes ages and ages to give me a handful of servers all with pings rated as 900 and stuff. I think it's another sign of their crazy controls on anything that even looks like peer to peer crippling the connections on that port.:mad:
