Signed up for tiscali a few months ago with no intention of gaming etc. Now wanting to use xbox live but the ping is terrible (200-300) plus around 25% packet loss, cant even surf the net most of the time. Ive requested support via email and everytime i do as they ask they reply with the exact same question. i.e. please do a tracert at bbc.co.uk and give us the results. Have done so and they just reply with the same thing
Can i cancel my contract on the grounds that they are either

a) not providing me with the service they said they would
or
b) not providing me with the technical support they agreed to.

What would be the outcome of me just emailing them that i am cancelling, why i am cancelling and just stopping my direct debit paymnet?

cheers.

you can cancel the contract but they're likely to charge you for the remainder of the contract. the problem is they don't have to provide you with a 24/7 connection or a low ping as part of the contract so they're providing you a valid service :(

Once you start gaming they'll do you for breaching the FUP, get 3 warnings and get banged on the bad boy pipe, or get your MAC as thye will offer it, or just download throughout the peak hrs to get the warnings, as after you get 3 they will ask you to leave by offering your MAC, get out now they crap, im glad i got away. :)

If you cancel they'll do yer if you don't pay the remainder.

Right i'll download as much as possible then. Funny how they should warn me for gaming as they state that they throttle p2p traffic so gamers can have a good connection...

thanks anyway

Yeah but if you game in the peak hrs as well, they'll FUP you also, your only allowed to download no more than about 50mb during peak hrs, so if your gaming throughout the peak hrs, then your gona breach the FUP for using to much bandwidth.

Get some P2P going, and limit it to take 50% of your bandwidth, then do a lot of gaming right through peak, that should do it ;)

I'll give it a bash but playing with a 300 ping is a bit crap tbh :) Still the end result will be worthwhile.

Thanks for the help.

Download a bittorrent client - utorrent for example - go to www.ubuntu.com and download the DVD .iso.

Legal, you get a chance to try out a Linux Distro and a huge 4GB file :D.

But at least you can sleep at night, safe in the knowledge that you are hitting your connection with everything, waiting for that day they give you your MAC :D.

You want to get out quick, ive heard O2 is buying em. :D :D
to be honest, O2 buying them can only make things better.
hard to see how they could be worse!

Crikey, with Tiscali offering such an abysmal internet service, it's a wonder that they are still in business with the high churn rate and bad publicity

What, with about 50MB/hour data transfer for a game? I should certainly think not! People these days, they think bandwidth like this is cheap!

:D :p.

They done it to me. I used to do next to no downloading, but about 30-35 hours of gaming a week averaging about 10GB a month in data transfer. I got stuck on their crap pipe which produced pings of 350+ and didnt realise until we had left.

i'm on a tiscali 2mb connection and i've been downloading films 24/7 for a few weeks now and the speeds are the same about 30kbps (torrents) i want to get out of my contract but im not gonna pay the rest untill march!!!!!

will they terminte the contact then if i use to much????

that would be sweet.
