Just wondering with Tiscali taking over Pipex and since my contract for the first year with Pipex (expires end of October this year) Can I change isp's now without incurring a penalty or demands for payments until October ?.

My original contract was with Pipex and not Tiscali.

Probably not. Whenever there is a takeover, there will be provision in the contract for existing customers within contract. Oh and btw, poor you. I had tiscali, they were awful. give em a ring to find out though, you might be able to cancel.. its unlikely but if you get the chance...

I had Tiscali when they first set up and I was impressed and happy, but as soon as they started advertising and they got a bit of money it just went downhill from there, connection became very slow and customer service was appauling.

But this worries me because Im currently with F2S, whom are owned by Pipex, whom now you say are being taken over by Tiscali?

No escape yet as for one thing the sale has not yet happened.

The Pipex shareholders have to approve it first and at the moment I don't expect the sale to actually happen much before September at the earliest.

Even when it does happen there is no escape then either as it is Pipex Internet Ltd that is being sold not just the customer base so the company you contract with still exists and you remain bound to the contract.

If Tiscali start changing things you may get an escape route but not before October and in fact it is unlikely that much will change before the middle of 2008.

Only thing I would advise is to use www.samknows.com and see if Tiscali have LLU at your Exchange.

If they do, it is their stated intention to switch customers from the Pipex purchase over to their LLU service during 2008.

They will most likely not give any warning about it, they will just do it.

Just checked and Tiscali does have LLU at my exchange. As soon as contract expires I'm outta there. Theres nothing to stop me giving them the 30 days notice before the expiry date is there ?

Just had a thought though, Ive been trying to get my Pipex webspace activated for about 3 weeks now, Tech support says that there was a problem setting it up at their end and they would have to get a engineer to do it manually ...whatever that means, but no guarantee when it would be done.
Maybe I should write to them via snail mail and suggest their not keeping to their end of the contract...possible get out clause maybe?

Good luck trying to 'escape' from Pipex. They ignored my first 2 e-mails requesting my mac code. Apparently 'you have to ring'. Then it took another 2 weeks of about 5 phone calls to various places including India in an attempt to stall me before they would even give me a MAC code + they did not want to give me written confirmation, only verbal. They are supposed to give it to you within 5 days of asking (try 3 weeks..).

I had to just cancel pipex :( Luckily for me pipex went off on the friday and my adsl was back on the monday.

They will probably do what AOL did when they were taken over by Talk Talk, give you a 30 day notice period of changes, which also allows you to get out of your contract and move before the changes come into effect without paying the remainder. :)

Nothing in what they have proposed so far that would need a contract change though.

Moving people to the Tiscali LLU network doesn't require it nor does offering new voice products to customers. If anyone accepts a new voice product then the new terms related to that apply of course.

They are bound to change it, Tosscali don't allow downloading, or online gaming for a start, all you can do is browse and read e-mails otherwise they stick you on a 'bad boy pipe' where your speeds get crippled even more. :p
