Exactly how good is this cooler and anyone know if it fits the striker extreme. Is it good enough to reflect on its price?Or any other suggestions to fit my striker extreme board?
Thanks

its good but depends on the circumstances, it uses 2 fans as well as a TEC, you only see the benefit of the TEc at high temperatures, this would be good if say you dont care about your electricity bill and have a quad core, because the tec uses a hell of a lot of power for a cpu cooler and this is designed to keep hot running cpu's under control, for instance you wont see much difference between this and any other cooler until you put the cpu underload, i would only reccomend this to people with quads overclocked to over 3ghz, this keeps my e6600 at 3.6ghz at 50-55 C, if i put it back to stock and run speedstep the idle temperature is 30 C but overclocked at 3.6ghz it idles at around 40-45 C

The reason I want it is because at the moment I havent even overclocked it, and it is idling at an average of 55c. When i put it under load it shoots up and as I say I still intend to oc it.
Does it seem that this would be a good use for the Titan?

Anyone aware if it fits onto the striker extreme, I currently have a Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B Heatpipe CPU Cooler on there, which although a pain in the ass to fit did go on there.

as long as you dont care about the electricity bill, this is the best air cooler for a quad core, some people may come along and say it isnt but ive used many air coolers, arctic coolers, thermaltake big typhoons, stock coolers, some asus coolers and some thermalright, the titan amanda is built for a specific purpose which is keeping a cpu which is under a heavy load sufficiently cool it is on par with other coolers when you test it under different circumstances but this would truly come into its own with quad cores, especcially under load, but as has been said before you need watercooling or better with quad cores it should fit your board as it fits most boards, need to check your case though because its huge

he he he
It sounds perfect so much so I have ordered one! And if it doesnt fit in my case then blow it...im sure its time i had a new case :P

sounds good do you think it would fit an nforce 680i in an akasa eclipse 62 ? keep us posted how u get on with it mark

well if your idling at 55C i guess if you overclocked to 3ghz you should idle at about 55C with the amanda, load it should jump up to 60C with all 4 cores, this is just a guess but, should be roughly correct, i wouldnt aim for over 3.2GHZ with air cooling with a quad core

I shall keep you posted although I am waiting for my ram to return, but on a brighter note Amanda turns up tomorrow. I'll put the flags out!

I reckon the only way I can see me setting up watercooling is if the air cooling is holding back a good overclocker.

I sold one of these recently for 30 odd quid that i used on my q6600 as i wasn't very impressed with it, it was a bit too noisy for me and the temps could hit 70 ...i posted a pic of temp in some other thread about quads a while back.

Your 55c temps seem really high to me, even considering it's a quad core. My X3210 is running at 2.8 ghz and the cores are idling about 40c (and it's quite warm in here, I have seen them idle as low as 36c). This is using a zalman 9700, which by most accounts isn't supposed to be as good as coolers like the ninjas. Perhaps your cooler just wasn't seated correctly, or there was something else wrong with it.

ok
the cooler is good if you dont overclock, if you do dont get this cooler, as soon as CPU goes under load the temps dont stop rising once they hit 50 as the tec creates more heat than it removes, its noisy.

my temps at idle are 33c, under load they start at 54c and go upto about 74c before it stops rising

you obviously dont have yours seated correctly or have a very concave cpu, mine stays at a full load of 50-55 at 3.6GHZ this is an e6600 and never rises above 55C

HSF has been reseated but tbh im not happy with the way it attaches to my board. What with the phase pipes its very difficult to get it to clip properly with those stupid push and turn pin clips. As i say im not happy at all with the cooler im using so amanda here i come.

My amanda arrived yesterday.........
And I love her!
Seriously though it fits to my board perfectly and actually feels secure for a reasonably weighty piece of kit.
Temperatures at idle are in range of 35 to 45 over the four cores.
When loaded with two instances of orthos the temps never went above 66.
It seemed that amanda would let them go to 66 then pull them down to 63 this happened constantly.
Instant improvement and I'm very happy.
Next test will obv be the overclock!

Just for more info; the room in my house is absolutely boiling as is my case which has pretty poor air flow, no doubt when i move to a better case these temps will improve moreso.
