Its def awesome, and furthermore it really isnt that noisy or at least I dont think so. My motherboard is in my sig, as for my case I am not entirely sure. Had it awhile no name on it. Its a midi case with a 120mm at the front and 2x80's at the rear.
I intend to get a tall full server case now to improve things further.

to make the best out of this cooler and your processor , i would lap your cpu, it takes roughly 2 hours of your time and costs £10 and should improve your temps by at least 5C im saying this because its a quad core, normally dual cores see a 5C drop so you should see at least 5C at least in load temps anyway

I cant say that I have ever tried to lap a cpu before, hows the best way to go about it sonny and thanks for the advice.
Be good to get this all straight before I oc it.

theres a lapping guide somewhere, i think its even stickied somewhere

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17598033

its in there, a few posts down

anyway the basics are, go to halfords, get yourself a wet and dry sand paper kit, you want one with different grades ranging from like 400 to 1500

you hold the cpu in its plastic case it came in, the small black plastic thing, and you move it up and down the sandpaper, then you rotate the cpu and do it again and again and again, start with the lowest number sandpaper and work your way up

the sticky will give you a much better explanation, just rmemeber to take your time and dont try to rush it or get bored doing it, just work away at it and you should get much better contact

Maybe its me but I'm not sure I understand the relevance?

well hes getting very poor results with his cooler, i would then maybe suggest looking at the airflow in your case, put it this way my 3.6ghz e6600 using 1.5V never goes above 55C on full orthos load, this was tested during feb/march i havent tested it in summer but my cpu is sitting at 30C idle just now

I was confused too but he was responding to this:

you obviously dont have yours seated correctly or have a very concave cpu, mine stays at a full load of 50-55 at 3.6GHZ this is an e6600 and never rises above 55C
:)

Edit: Looks like Psycho's posted a tad faster! :p :D

Ahh yes, all makes sense now and thanks for the info sonny, maybe a weekend job there for me.
I assume this voids the warranty then.

I have just read that if your supposed to colour the top of the cpu in with permanent marker, then sand it until its all gone.
This good practice?

sounds dodgy to me hehe :S sanding a chip that cost me >£500 lol

btw what would you say are considered safe temps for quad core? specifically the qx6700  cos i hear that they are supposed to run a lot hotter than for instance the c2d's

i think anything below 80C is regarded as safe so i would reckon 70C full load should be safe, but do remember temperatures in summer and winter can vary greatly and can even kill your systems if they run too hot in a heat wave
