Titan Black or 290X?

Very simple. I have a 290X and could swap it for a Titan Black 6GB with another item as a trade.

Would you say this is worth it, much/if any upgrade, the other item I would value approx £100.

I know the Titan black is a beast, but looking at benchmarks and reviews, I cant seem to justify the swap based on figures?

Thanks

do you mean you have to pay 100 quid on top of your 290 to get a titan black....if so of course, even for the resale value!!!!

I would have thought it'd be worth it if only to sell the Titan Black and re-buy a 290X. Seems like a very good deal to me.

obviously which is the best performance card but you may not like the nvidia image quality which is worse than AMD.

AMD image quality is better than Nvidia?

and yes, 290X plus a BOSE pc system which as I say is approx. £100-£150 worth now.

no proof needed. google it its well known amd has better image quality.

before you dive in im on nvidia card.

Okay totally not related but as a response to image quality I do honestly believe it's to do with your settings for image quality, the only time I used Nvidia and ati was in the x850xt then 6600 Nvidia then 7800gtx then after that was a 2900xt and then 8800gts. I would say the 7800gtx had better image quality than the 7800gtx, but it was because it was more powerful I could run a lot of AA etc on counter strike source back in the day the x850xt couldn't. But then again the 2900xt though out performed by the 8800gts the 2900xt had better image quality at identical settings but lower fps. But Iv been amd ever since that era, Iv never had a Nvidia card since the 8800gts, don't like the way they go about there business now a days. Amd seem much more genuine folk, gpu wise anyway. But seeing recently a rig with a 980 in it, it didn't look as crisp as my 7950s at all

it is a win/win trade man do it. The R9 290X has resell value around £160-£210 depends on model. The titan black has resell value of around £400-£450.

Amd has better image quality??? Ive just upgraded from Amd yo Nvidia and there is no difference at all :/ what you smoking?

Some people say the colour pallets are different but tbh i cant tell the difference and im picky with these things lol

OP don't do it

I use Titans and 290Xs and there is not much difference.

If you are going to use Titans now or in the future (when the Maxwell Titan arrives) you need several of them to use the extra memory and also as a group they are smoother than any other multi GPU solution.

Swapping a single 290X for a Titan though is a waste of time as the Titan on it's own is probably a little slower in a lot of things.

You just had to ask didnt you, did the forums seem too quiet to you or something :p, I hope you were not looking for a quick response because this argument could last a while :).

this is not simply a performance related question. I consider it as an Economics question. With the titan black, you can sell it for at least £400-£450, it is enough to buy 2x R9 290X. But with other item which costs around £100 as OP has, can he buy another R9 290X by selling that item? Not mentioning the fact that if OP does not want to buy another R9 290X, he could use that money somewhere else.

I would be surprised if you could shift a Titan BE for £400+ that easy.:)

A brand new GTX 980 for just over £400 will out perform a single Titan BE in just about everything, that's economics.:)

Titans need to be used in groups to get the best out of them.

I am not able to say anything about other places here. But the resell value of the Titan Black in the second hand market right now is around £500 for 2 weekssale and around £450 for quick sale. As for the price of 2nd R9 290X ref, it can easily be found to be around £150-£170. Slightly more expensive for other model such as TriX from Sapphire or windforce 3X from Gigabyte,etc... but £200 is possible.
