Hey all,

I'm currently looking at buying a new comp since I'd like to get back into gaming now my schedule and life allow the time for it, especially with ESO coming out at the end of the month. The problem is I've been out of the computing loop for a few years now and have absolutely no idea about a few of the options available to me and what would be a better choice. Also since I haven't really seen the inside of a computer for years I'm not comfortable with building one as I would have been.

Right so onto the details, I would like to keep to a budget of £2000 Max for this. The full system I'm currently looking at is the "Titan Envy Duo" Intel Core i7 4770K @ 4.4GHz Overclocked Nvidia GeForce SLI Gaming PC. I planned on keeping the default options available to me except for the following:

Win 7 Pro 64bit
250gig SSD
OcUK 24x DVD-RW

As for the graphics card options, this is where I'm some what perplexed. Would the single GTX780ti 3072 option be better than the two GTX770 4096mb? I've tried doing some reading up on this but its basically a wall of text critically hitting me, so any help would be appreciated.

Also I have a couple of other questions regarding the over clock and water cooling, both of which I've never done or had. How detrimental is the overclocking to the life of the CPU and if so, do I need to keep an eye on anything? As for the water cooling, is the system self contained or does it require topping up every so often etc (I can only imagine those of you in the know cackling at that statement).

Any help would be appreciated and if anyone has any suggestions on possible changes/systems I wouldn't mind that too.

Thanks!

2x770s aren't a sensible choice, they're based on hardware that was aging over a year ago, and it won't have particularly good longevity due to the 256 bit memory bus. To put it simply, the 256 bit memory bus means that the cards find it harder to run games with memory intensive options on, such as high resolution, Anti aliasing, and ambient occlusions.

The 780ti is very very expensive (read overpriced) for the performance you get. An R9 290 would be a more sensible choice than either of the other options, as it's quite close to the 780ti but at nearly half the price.

The 770 is a decent card, but you're getting the more expensive 4gb version. As a 780 is just £80 more - I'd go for that any day.

As Spoffle said, the 290 is probably the price-performance sweet spot at the moment, but the Titan Wrath Duo (the AMD alternative to the Envy) is actually more expensive due to the overkill motherboard you get with it.

The h100i water cooler you get requires no maintenance. Overclocking won't harm your chip if you do it right and have adequate cooling. OcUK will provide the former, the h100i will provide the latter.

I just ordered the exact same ( envy duo ) and went for the 250gb SSD and 780gtx.

I wouldn't go for the 770 tbh.

I like the way they call it the duo...but then you have to pay more for it to actually be a "duo" card setup. It's a bit "DFS" in sales pitch imo.
