Hi,

I purchased a Titan Goliath from Overclockers in October. Overclocked from 2.66Ghz to 3.40GHZ.

I have noticed that the Processors core speed and multiplier keep droping in CPU-Z. Does the I7 920 Processor do this, or is it supposed to?

Multiplier keeps dropping from 21 down to 12 and this affects the core speed of the processor.

Under load testing in OCCT are these temps ok from core temp?

Not sure if the temps are within tolerance or whatever?

Anyone any help or advice on this, it would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Temps do seem a little high, I get around 75c @ 4ghz with a TRUE with the fan at full speed, what speed is your fan operating at - download HW monitor this will tell you fan speed :)

Check my thread below regards Speedstep, the same still applies for i7 range -Clicky

Thanks for the reply RJC.

I have now downloaded HW Monitor and this is what my fan speeds were, when under 100% load using OCCT.

Fan 0 - 1242 RPM
Fan 1 - 499 RPM
Fan 3 = 728

Also thanks for pointing to your thread regarding Speedstep.

75C ain't a dangerous temp unless its kept at the for a long time daily.
Then it it probably damage your chip after a few months..
Or definanently shorten its life span.

Intel rate the chips to just over 100deg of constant use, nowhere near the limit. :)

The drop in speed is an energy saving feature we leave enabled on all of our overclocks, when your PC does not need the extra power the CPU throttles down to save on power. By saving on the power it also outputs less heat.

You can make the PC run at full speed all the time by changing one setting in the BIOS but this is not recommended, would make the PC more costly to run for a start!

Nothing to worry about there, if the system is stable just enjoy it. :)

Those temps are fine for that cooler and that overclock. As you're never going to see constant 100% usage of the i7 in real world apps your temps will not reach that high anyway so its nothing to worry about. Thats not to say temps in the 70s are intolerable with an i7.

Thanks for all the comments guys. :)

Yewen - Thanks for the reassurance. System does seem stable enough and I'm enjoying using it. Thanks mate. :)

Thanks also Nocky24, all the help has been much appreciated.

Cheers.:D
