According to our source chip should have the following key features:

Chip size from 10 to 15 percent over the GK110 (551 mm2)
Number of CUDA in 2816 (20-22 SMM blocks), apparently the first version will be active all chip in SMM
Memory bus 384 or 512-bit (rather I-384 bit)
Gaming and professional card should come out at the same time, a game like Titan X
Launch of Q4 / 2014
Performance Titan X - 40-50 percent over Titan Black

It appears to be a huge chip and still 28NM.

So it seems around 30% to 40% faster than a GTX980 but with a 50% bigger chip.

That's going to be insanely expensive. No word on a 980Ti but then not surprising. I imagine they'll milk as much as they can out of the Titan II and then release 980Ti around Feb/March.

Might flog my 980 shortly after it arrives if the new amd parts are quicker! :p

I'm not surprised its still on 28nm If the 900's are anything to go by this will still be a impressive card , Will be interesting to see how well it cools and clocks and i hope AMD have something high end out before it at a reasonable price so this isnt priced sky high
Thanks Cat nice find

I wonder if Nvidia is just trying to rush the "900" series and the new Titan out the door quickly on 28nm instead of waiting for 20nm, so when they launch 20nm cards not much later people would be itching to upgrade again :p

I mean let's be honest...the 900 series is really just a more refined 700 series with lower power-consumption and only slightly faster. If Nvidia really is pushing out Titan 2 at Q4 on 28nm this year, it would mean the 980Ti would probably be on 28nm as well if launch at around Q2 period of 2015. The chances are they would most likely have "Titan 3" at the ready by or before Q4 of 2015 and set to milk again, and we won't see 20nm 70/80 cards till 2016 :p

I thought they would leave Titan 2 until 20nm so it can be their flagship card for a while. If its 28nm then won't the 980ti outright wipe the floor with it making it redundant if this is then released on 20nm?

Its a 50% bigger chip though than the GTX980. So even with the inefficiencies from adding greater DP compute and more VRAM modules due to the larger memory bus,it will be faster.

That's assuming IF they would roll out the 980Ti on 20nm.

How much more can they squeeze in the 28nm though. Unless the ti is huge as well like the Titan 2 (if info is correct) they cant make much more out of the one in the 980.

Something inside me tells me that they are going to mess up again the naming. When i read titan the first time it was about to come out i was like wow that is the flagship of NV this gen and then the Ti came out suddenly Titan was meh. To a person who doesn't follow these they would think that a TI was inferior to the Titan. I liked the old naming convention (GT, GTS, GTX, Ultra :P)

They are not going to release a 980Ti on 20nm few months down the line if Titan 2 is indeed on 28nm...it will end-up slapping themselves in the face.

The simply logic is that they are not going to release a Ti or 90 card on 20nm if the Titan 2 is on 28nm.

The GK110 is estimated at between 551MM2 and 565MM2. The 10% to 15% estimate means between 600MM2 to 650MM2 for the GM200 and GM210. Even AMD is probably going to produce their first GPU over 500MM2 too. You have to blame companies like Apple for all this - they can pay above the odds for 20NM volume, since their products have very high margins.

TBH,I was actually expecting the GM200/GM210 to be 20NM(after hearing more rumours on this forum in the last few days),and it being another £1000 card due to the high production costs until 20NM pricing and volume had improved.

However, they won't be the largest chips produced ATM - the highest end Haswell EP is a 661MM2 CPU.

what ever the first GM200/210 is called, you have to remember that there will probably be three cards that come from it. (GK110 titan ,780,780ti) SO on that front it is very doubtful that they will call it the 980Ti as it gives them no room to fit in the other cards.

Also just one word on the whole thought of Nvidia and AMD milking it, just what are they suppose to do? With the TSMC situation as it is and people wanting new products, realistically they have not had a lot of choices. Stick with 28nm, or just keep the existing products until 20nm becomes viable.

Titan was originally intended to be in the Tesla->Quadro->Titan lineup so it would be a bit strange as they have no proper Maxwell professional cards currently and last I heard were holding off for 20nm for a new professional lineup having just refreshed the current 28nm ones.

They have left the price point open for a ti type card though so that would make more sense.

I'll be surprised if we don't see a transition to 20nm early next year as AMD ostensibly are committed to that and I can't see nVidia trying to compete with 28nm, though obviously manufacturing issues can get in the way of the best laid plans.
