Hi Overclockers

I think (?) I have made my mind up but I thought I would post first to see what others might suggest. I am looking to buy an Overclockers Titan Onyx system cos it looks like it would be a good choice for 3D modelling and animation. But I am wondering if I should wait a little longer and just update my old system.

My old system:

Q8400 2.66ghz
ATI 1950 Pro
Win XP
P5QD Mobo
4gb DDR2

I thought if I just bought Win 7 and a new GPU that would give me a modest speed improvement and allow me to access that extra .5gb RAM. I could also overclock the CPU to around 3.4ghz from what I have heard.

Anyone got one of the Onyx systems? If you have have you run Cinebench R11.5 on it?

Well I bit the bullet and bought one and it is as fast as I had hoped on the CPU score but even better on the GPU score 53fps!

Only problem I have with this system is that is bloody noisey, the CPU fan seems to be running 2,000rpm all the time even when I have tried to use ASUS's Fan Expert.

Used to have this problem on my old system but Fan Expert fixed it. Would it be running this fast cos the machine is overclocked?

Might have to un-overclock it...

You need to update your sig :p

And, you should be able to go into your bios and reduce the voltage to the CPU fan hence reducing the speed and increasing quietness...

I might point out however that if you do this, I take no responsibility in your Overclock failing :S

These pre-built systems have been set up as they have to keep the system's cool at the overclock they're running at.

Best thing to do would be to change the voltage in the Bios and then use a temp monitor such as HWMonitor along with Prime 95 to see if you hit dangerous temps...

Edit: Seeing that the system comes with a H70, you could try replacing the fans, but that would be more money :S Personally I'd recommend phoning OCUK and talking to them about it as they have a policy on all they're bundles I believe for 1 years support, and their phone support is top notch :)
