A friend and I have took up playing Titan Quest recently but unfortunately he has a problem. During certain areas, usually grassy areas or with large amounts of back ground (cliffs) cause it to slow down, become jerky and generally unplayable. The CPU useage goes up but does not max out on any cores.

Q6600 @ 3.2 cpu
9600GT gfx
4GB ram

This should play this game easily and putting my GTX275 in wont solve the problem. He has tried different settings such as triple buffering on/off and different resolutions to no avail.

Any suggestions?

I was playing this game a few weeks ago on my new laptop:

Dv8-1110ea which has Nvidia GT 230m w/ 1gb RAM, i7 quad core and 4gb RAM

It seemed to run quite alright for me... When I enter caves and stuff though it lagged a little as it once did even on my old computers when I played :S

Have you tried taking away shadows? Maybe there is a bug with a particular setting, have you tried disabling stuff one by one?

Very strange, it should be running with no hiccups with that spec.

Are you running any mods?

I can only think that something is else on your PC is interfering with it or a mod has gone rogue.

Try reinstalling the game. And don't forget to install the latest community patch. It fixes stuttering that occurs in the new expansion.

Also, is it a legit version?

Tried re-install of the game and even a fresh win 7 install on his new F4.
He has tried the patches all to no avail.
As for the shadows setting, I will have to ask - i assume he will have tried this though as he is quite clued up and he has put a lot of time into tring to fix this bug.
Also, the game is legit.

It is starting to look like some obscure hardware issue I guess.

Hmm, I've seen a similar issue where both PCs playing where individually capable of running it smoothly but playing multiplayer gradually decreased framerates for no obvious reason.

Is it just multiplayer or does it happen in singleplayer as well?

Both - online it effects his comms, it starts to garble and break up, as soon as he walks from the area it goes fine again.
