Titan Typhoon config questions

Hi,

I'm thinking about ordering a Titan Typhoon system this week and I have a few questions I hope to get opinions on. I'm kinda out of date hardware wise so excuse me if I ask anything nooby :) I'll be using the PC for a media hub, video editing and a few games such as GTA V.

The system is:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-067-OG

Intel Core i7 Haswell-E 5930K @ 3.8GHz, X99 Chipset, Up to 32GB 2133MHz DDR4, Samsung SSD, Nvidia Graphics, SLI Option, 7.1 HD Audio, GB LAN, Super Flower 1000W Gold Rated PSU

With the following options:

16GB RAM
1 TB Samsung SSD
3TB 7200rpm HD
Win 7 Home Premium
GeForce GTX 980 or 2x 970 in SLI

On to the questions!

1) I assume this rig will play GTA V and Far Cry 4 etc maxed out pretty well?

2) Is it a noisy PC fan wise? Obviously all fan cooled systems make noise, just don't want something sounding like a hoover :)

3) Plan to order the PC with a SSD and a 7200rpm hard drive but I would like to add 3 additional SATA hard drives. It possible to have 5 SATA devices connected in this rig?

4) I like having windows installed and all set up when I buy a rig, however I already have a windows 7 home premium licence from a machine I bought from yourselves a few years ago. I don't really fancy buying a new one. Is it possible to order the machine with windows installed but with no licence so I can transfer/use my current one?

5) I've been doing a bit of reading up regard to this, but I can't make up my mind, so opinions are welcome please! I don't know whether to get a single GTX980 or two GTX970 in SLI. Both configs cost pretty much the same. If you're reading this which would you choose? :)

Many thanks

RN

Welcome to the forums :)

Just to answer point number 5 i would choose the 970gtx sli over the 980gtx as it will be a lot faster depending on scaling of course in particular games.

Only downside is that it would limit future upgrade path (to add 2nd 980gtx) but there isnt a huge difference between them...about 20% maybe? (970sli vs 980sli)

980s are over priced for the extra performance they give.

Yes sli/xfire can be extra hassle regarding drivers and game support but when it works its great :)

And of course pc looks a lot nicer with two cards installed :)

Just my opinion though :)

Have you considered buying all the components yourself and building it yourself?

Would be cheaper plus very satisfying to do and not that difficult with a little help from people on here :)

I don't have the time and patience to build it myself so I have no problem paying someone to build it correctly. Thanks for your reply :)

Hi

You can ask ocuk to build you a system to your own spec. They usually charge from about £60 upwards depending on the system.

You would have to ask them regarding the operating system.

What is your budget for the pc ?

Do you need anything else such as Mouse/Keyboard/Monitor ?

Also what resolution do you plan on gaming at ?

Do you have any colour scheme in mind ?

If you are just Gaming and Video editing then Z97 would be a cheaper option. The i7 4790K should be slightly better for gaming due to the higher core speed.

Heya,

Thanks for your time

My budget is £2300 max including VAT for the box. I don't need any else as I just ordered a new Dell U2715H 27" screen so as you can guess I plan to play games at 1440p.

Have no color scheme planned - just a nice dark case with a window.

Went through most of the pre configured gaming bundles and the Titan Typhoon seems the best match but opinions are welcome! :)

When it comes down to configuring a system I'm lost as I don't know which motherboard is the best.. and then when it comes cooling I'm lost. I'm basically looking for a rock solid stable machine that will last a few years without any issue... and is quiet. (No water cooling - too difficult to maintain) But I suppose everyone is looking for that :)

Here is a Red/Black offering.

All the HDD's and SSD's are hidden in the Phanteks Luxe, so you get a nice clean look. The power supply is also hidden under a cover.

You could even add a G-Sync Monitor (if you have room on your desk). Then the Dell could be used for working on and the G-Sync for Gaming.

I went with a single GTX 970. One of these will cope with 1440p. I would try it with one first off and see what you think. You can always add a 2nd later on.

I haven't included any Hard drives as I don't know how much storage you require. The Sniper board has 6 SATA ports, so one would be used by the SSD leaving you with 5.

The Phanteks case has room for 6 x 3.5 HDD's and a couple of SSD mounts at the rear.

I think you would be better going with 2 or 3 larger HDD's rather than 5 x 1TB/2TB drives though.

The extra CableMod cables, and the Phanteks LED strip are optional. You can do away with those if you want.

The BeQuiet cooler is nice and quiet. I have the Dark Rock 2 in my own pc.

I don't know what the stock fans are like in the Luxe. You can always ask Customer Services to change them for some quieter ones.

If you look at this thread, you can get the shopping cart plugin - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18371076&highlight=browser

If you want ocuk to build the above spec (Or any spec that you or someone else comes up with) then just make a new thread in the pre-build section and you can get a quote.

If I look at this base System Configuation it says the Intel 5820K is out of stock ?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/syscon_int.php?prodid=FS-068-OG

Same go's for most other system configs I look at - everything is out of stock

It might be because they use cherry picked cpu's for those systems. I know the 8pack systems use hand picked cpu's to get the best overclocks.

If you look at the individual cpu's you will see that they are in stock.

If you ignore the configurator and just get ocuk to build you a pc to your spec then you will be fine. You will still get the warranty.

This way you are not tied to a certain list of components.

You can always ask them to overclock the cpu as well if you want that.

Make's it very confusing and complicated to order doing it that way - I just want to be able to edit a system config like on every other website such as ** No competitors ** <-- looks like they'll be getting my business despite being more expensive.

Thanks anyway lee!

Just wish I found the above mentioned site last night - would have saved me a whole day trying to build a system on here with all the incomplete system configurations. Complete waste of a day :(

Very disappointed in oc.co.uk. Meh

I have to say anyone seeing this I am not sure why they don't offer a configuration with all options in. Other competitors often get sales this way that OCUK could be having.

Just giving you an update Lee since you were kind enough to spec some systems for me. I placed an order today for the Titan Typoon system with the following config. oc.co.uk has you to thank for my order!

Config ordered is:

Intel Core i7 Haswell-E 5930K @ 3.8GHz
Liquid Cooling
NZXT H440 Mid Tower
16GB DDR4 2666mhz RAM
2 x GTX 970 in SLI
1TB Samsung EVO SSD
3TB Seagate Barracuda

Thanks again Lee
