Titan XP vs RTX

Hey!

I’m currently running a Titan Xp GPU in my set up. Card has been fine for years but lately I see the occasional screen flicker and tearing. Tried swapping my display cable and using additional ports.

I also know it isn’t the monitor playing up.

So, playing at 1440p 144hz I’m wondering if the RTX 2070 or even the RTX 2080 would be a good upgrade for me?

In short no. Only thing worth it performance wise would be the 2080Ti but obviously an expensive card.

The Titan is a tad faster than the 1080Ti which is already 2070/S levels of performance. So more of a side grade if anything.

IMO I’d wait if you can for next gen.

I've had a Titan Xp (3840 core version) overclocked and it was a good 10% faster than my overclocked 1080 Ti. I'd say it's around 2080/S performance. Only the Ti would offer an upgrade though not worth the cost outlay.

How long is your video cable? I've found Displayport to be twitchy at lengths over 3 metres with high bandwidth and switched to fibre.

Switched to a fiber what exactly ?

I think you’re right; like you say the 2080-ti seems to be the only significant upgrade.

The only time switching from a Titan xp made sense was if you bought a 2080ti from day one , right now (and i'm no fan of the 'future proof' upgrade myth) it makes zero sense from a value perspective.

My DP cable is 3m but I can’t get away with anything shorter based on my set up unfortunately.

I’ll hang tight on the upgrades with my GPU

Same as above I have a 10m dp cable and it handles 1440p 165hz and from testing even 3440x1440 144hz without issue.

Also have the same but in hdmi and it handles 4k@60 over 10+ metres without issue.

The ones I use are the ATZEBE ones on amazon. Quite cheap and excellent quality. You can get them in 2m,5m,10m,15+20m.

They can be expensive but for my setup and several cables they are the only ones that work for what I needed. I’ve seen reports of the DP cables being possible for 144hz 4k up to 20 metres. My setup the pc is several metres away from my monitor and tv in my storage cupboard. For 0 noise essentially.
