Hi all. Not posted for a while but wanted to ask a question that may wind people (nvidia users) up the wrong way, but that is NOT my intention. I would just like to understand...
I am invested in the Nvidia infrastructure. I haven't owned an ATI GPU since before the Geforce 295x. I own 2x980's, GSYNC monitor and an Nvidia Shield Tablet.
Knowing all this about me can someone please explain why going for a Titan X would be a better idea over the likely less expensive and more powerful 390X? From all leaked data the 390X is the better card and ATI usually release their cards at more competitive prices. All this and the added benefit of the HBM stacked (now 8GB if rumor is to be believed) memory, surely ATI has a winner?
Unless the 980Ti has higher clocks and at least 12GB of memory to match the stacked 8GB of memory bandwidth ATI now uses I do not see the point in the Titan X unless you are doing 3D rendering or folding? I can't even use the X for premiere pro CC as it doesn't have a 10 bit output!
I just don't see the point in buying the X. Why not wait for the 980Ti or 390X?

)Highlighted two words that will have a baring on why people are going with the TX, it's here now, its specifications and performance are real and people have to realize that while the value of the £ does not change from person to person, the perceived value of it does.
If you can and want to have the best now why wait for something (the 390x) that is nothing more then a group of people on a forum getting excited about absolutely nothing.
E-peen. It matters a lot around these parts.
TBH, the 4k figures on more stressful games have left me pretty underwhelmed with Titan X (and I'm saying that as a huge Nvidia fan.)
All this year's cards (AMD included) are parts-bin hacks, IMHO. Real next gen. starts mid/late 2016, with a process-shrink, full stacked ram implementations, and mature, full DX12 drivers. ..Oh, and some software that can actually take advantage of all that (so think 2017/18, then.)
I agree. I thought the exact same thing! The reviews are saying 4K is finally here now, but 4k will not be finally here on PC until we can get a consistent 60fps at high settings... As for E-peen I think it would be more like E-flaccid if people go for the Titan X.
That's another thing. Titan X was announced a few weeks back and is now out. Fiji XT or 390X has been known about for a long time yet ATI aren't releasing. Why?

Because they are giving retailers time to run down the stocks of 290X's that no one wants

If you think you are going to by a GPU and it's going to be 60 FPS + @ 4K with all eye candy for 2-3 years to come you are crazy.
You are looking to grab 2 of these to have a great time with 4K for a year or two, I would say it's a good buy due to having less trouble than tri-sli or tri-crossfire.

About AMD's R9-390X we know nothing other than speculation.

I think there is still a lot of value in the 290X 8GB, even now. I would imagine that remaining 290X stock levels are not the driving factor, its probably supply and cost around HBM - if thats what the 390X is going to run.
