Just completed my new rig. Moved away from an E8600 at 4.5GHz with a pair of 5870's to a 3770k with a GTX670 TOP. Very happy with it so far. It runs very cool and apart from the TX850 fan, which sounds like a gas turbine, it's very quiet as well.

  1. Only the top part of the HDD caddy has been used. Custom wiring for SATA power.
  2. Front panel holes filled in and painted in Mercedes Obsidian Black. Six coats of lacquer.
  3. 16mm red VP switched used for PWR and RST. PWR led is for PWR and RST led is HDD.

    What's inside the tin.
    • 3770K at 4.3GHz (Arctic 5 Silver TIM
    • Asus GTX670 DCU2 TOP
    • Corsair TX850
    • Asus Gene V
    • Kingston Hyper X 1866MHz
    • Lapped Thermalright Ultra 120mm Extreme with 1156 bolt through kit. Apache Fan.
    • Vertex 4 128GB
    • Seagate 2TB, Samsung 1TB and a Samsung BD-ROM
    • Silverstone TJ08-E Case
    • 4 port USB 3.0 PCIe
    • Win 7 X64 Professional
For those interested check it out here.

The first image shows the 08 next to Z Machine case, not for size comparisons but because I could not get the Linux OCZ tools to work with my MOBO No mouse and no keyboard. Had to use another PC booted to the Linux tool connected to the SSD. Didn't take the SSD out as that would mean removing the HDD caddy, which is held in with screws, washers and nuts. Not enough patience or room to go for that method.

Hey thanks for this mate, I am feeling the urge to build a sweet new PC as small as possible. My current one is still fine, but quite large and noisy, and every time I browse the forums I see all the shiny new tech and get ideas.

I couldn't be happier with the PC. It's fast and quiet, with the exception of the fan on Corsair TX850v2 PSU. It is basically louder than the CPU fan, the two on the GPU and the 180mm at the front combined!!!! Not sure whether to leave it or simply blow the warranty on the PSU and swap it out.

I was thinking of making an mATX build in this exact case.

I have a non modular PSU atm how easy it was it to hide the load of unused cables?

Mason- to be fair dead easy. My PSU is non modular but there is a massive space behind the tray to hidel cables. I was doubtful but it was dead easy. If you click my picasa link up top you can see a shot of the cables hidden.

Cheers

Hey,

I am planning a build using this case and I have a few questions.

1. Is that mobo best for even small oc (say 4.0 - 4.2 ) using a cheaper cooler like cm 212 evo.(and speaking of cooler can you recommened any cooler to use with low profile vengeance ram 2sticks that doesnt cause any obstructions)
2. Is it worth/ is there enough room for a fan at the rear to use as an exhaust , I see in your build heatsink fan is nearly at rear grate anyway,
3. I believe the upper hdd caddy has a rubber grip on top for longer gfx card but the card you used seems to fit just right without sticking out. Did you do this without any modding? Was it easy to take out that upper hdd caddy? (I plan to use 1 ssd + 1 hdd with either a 670 or 660ti)

Thanks for your response.

Just to chime in, if you're considering the Silverstone TJ08-E you may want to look at the slightly newer Silverstone PS07. Pretty much the same internally but it allows 2 x 120mm fans in the front rather than the single 180mm. This helped with mounting a cpu cooler radiator (h50-1)

I removed the two (upper and lower) front HD caddies without a problem, 1 clips in and the other is screwed in. I put a 3.5" HD in the mount below the cd drive, then an SSD which can be mounted on the floor of the case.

Also has a 120mm exhaust at the rear.

Both the TJ08 and PS07 have ample room at the back of the motherboard for routing psu cables.

Been running my 3770k @ 4.4G on air in the TJ08 for a while now. Temps are great. Mobo and GTX670 TOP never seem to get toasty. Best little case I have owned. Wished they made it with no or one 5 1/4" slot, rather than two.
