...check out the Jeff Banks Stvdio and St. George by Duffers ranges at Debenhams. I went in there the other day at random to find they are having an uber sale with many suits half price. I am a slim guy and find it VERY difficult to find a suit that fits me like a glove without needing tailoring. I tried on a Jeff banks Stvdio suit and not only did it fit like a glove (size 36R), but in a way that looked like it HAD been tailored. I then tried on a St. George by Duffer suit and that was only slightly less impressive... but still had an amazing fit.

End result... two pure wool suits of very good quality with two pairs of trousers for 120 quid per set, exactly half price. Puts things into perspective when you get people like Ben Sherman and Ted Baker charging 200 plus for suits with mediocre fit and not always pure wool to boot.

I bought these two in 36R with the matching trousers 30R:

To anyone wanting a new suit I highly suggest you check out the Debenhams website or nearest store asap and go and try some stuff on. If they haven't got your size in-stock just ask them to order it from the warehouse and they will get that done in around a week. I really can't reccommend them enough, they honestly do look the dogs nadgers and for 120 quid with two pairs of trousers you really can't do better than that.

Also worth noting they have a TON of good shirts in the sale down as low as 12.50 from 35+ by the same designers... all very high quality and really do have a tailored look and feel to them. Great for summer interviews or a wardrobe refresh. :)

You're the man, I was on the market for a new suit and I'm a slim guy. It's normally with trousers I have problems as I have spindly legs :p.

30R? Short too ;)

I generally end up with a 38L jacket, as the 36L isn't long enough. 32/35s on the trousers though for me, which is more my stumbling block.

30R are a nice slim fit, should be fine on you with that range. :)

Another tip for the slimmer guys, get some bloody pies down you, scrawny sods :p

They do larger sizes for the "larger" men too y'know. :p

Topman also do nice slim fit suits... Ben Sherman and Ted Baker, honestly.. :)

Topman wouldn't know pure wool if it hit them in the face with a big sign saying "Haha i'm a pure wool suit". Top Man is pure unadulterated plastic tat... I shudder every time I walk in the place and see the horrible polyester crimes before me. :p

Who just put Ben Sherman and Ted Baker in the same sentence

That said I love TB but find their suits generally aren't worth the pricetag, anywhere near.

I put them in the same sentence simply because i've seen their top-end suits at similar prices lately and they represent two popular suit brands... no other reason. Ted Baker is MUCH better quality material, but the Shermans have the better fit. Fit is something Ted needs to work on, his shirts are equally poor in that respect. :)

Where can I spend Debenhams vouchers?

Tescos.

Cheers for that Richdog, any other brands of off the peg slim fitting suits for a guy of your size? (36 and 32R here) Think I might need a nicer one for interviews coming up.

Just go for the Jeff Banks or St. Duffers mate, if you're on the upper end of 36R then his 38R may be fine for you too. Find your nearest Debbers and try some on, they will go a long way to making those interviews a bit smoother.

I'll post a couple of pics tommorrow of me wearing it with a nice shirt just to show you how slim and well fitting it is. :)

You're not a Debenhams Buyer, are you? ;)

What you've just described is the price-establishment positioning of any retail organisation. It works for suits, kitchens, white goods, holidays, cars etc etc.

WAS £5,000 ... NOW ONLY 25 PENCE!!!!

As long as the pre-reduced price (i.e. initial price) is set and advertised before the need to drop the price, it's flawless and can't be touched, and works better if it is preposterously high. The post-reduced (i.e. actual or 'sale' price) is often the intended price for the item from the Buyers point of view. It can change when fashion or fads come in to play but the premise is the same.

Glad you like the suit and shirts. Just remember that the bargain isn't always the bargain it seems from the numbers alone.

magnolia I don't care about the sales psychology behind it (which in this instance you are exagerrating) and this is not the thread for that... the point is that in comparison to other competing designer brands, 120 quid for a high quality suit and two pairs of trousers is a VERY good price.

Topman Topman Topman for skinny guys, they go down to a 34.

If you like plastic tat.

I agree, i'm slim and before I got mine tailor made in Hong Kong and Bangkok I used to use only Jeff Banks Svudio.

I bought a total of three over two years (£250 each :( - looks like they've come down a tad!)

And that's fine, I wasn't knocking your deal. It's sounds quite good, actually :) I just wanted to point out that this is micro-managed in a way that you're probably not aware of (even if you WERE to care about it) and that sometimes the non-sale items present better overall value. In this instance, a trip down Jermyn Street during "sale" season could have perhaps got youa far superior suit albeit at a slightly inflated price.

Anyway, I'm not here to pee on your parade. Glad you like your gear and kudos for posting to get others aware :)

Sorry magnolia I wasn't meaning to be arsey I do know what you mean... almost all retail shops currently "cycle" deals throughout their UK stores in order to keep a "sale culture" going... herbal shops and carpet/furniture shops especially! However in this instance with them being such good quality suits, and considerably cheaper than many other comparable ranges out at the moment (i've scoured loads of shops for the last week, solid) then I thought it was worth particular mention. And as I say, finding suits that really hug slim figures without some bespoke tailoring is a real mission :)
