Hi all,

have there been any rumours of any incoming price drops after christmas?

I'd quite like to build an i7 Gaming rig, I already have silverstone fortress, prolimatech cooler and GTX260 (not sure if i should upgrade this or not).

Fancied going i7 for a while now and have a bit of disposible income (about £700)

have been looking into SSD so was hoping these would drop after christmas!

Any build suggestions would be great as there is so much on the market at the minute i cant really decide!

Thanks,

Ash

oh of course! forgot that!

intel are releasing the 6 core in march, so i cant remember if prices started dropping in the hype period upto quad from dual?

I doubt there will be any price drops on the i7's anytime soon, and like Silent Spring said, VAT is going back up to 17.5% again in January, so now is as good a time as any to put a new build together!

You could go for the Gigabyte UD3R for £132, 6GB OCZ Gold 1600MHz RAM for £118, and the i920 D0 for £214, then just use the PSU, GPU and HDD's/ODD's and case from your current rig, that comes to quite a bit less than your £700 budget, so you could even upgrade the graphics card to the 5850 as well if you wanted.

wasnt really after a bargain build, although whats the difference between the ud3 and say the ud5?

im currently using gigabyte and every time a motherboard has arrived, the small pins which hold onto the heatsinks have come loose/missing, and had to be rma'd.

does asus use a similar technique for securing northbridge etc?

jan is king of sales regardless of vat goes up or down. whatever you buy will be cheaper in january . few weeks wait to be honest.
